"Mintz," as he was known to all, was born to Juanita and James Mintz Sr. in Orangeburg, S.C. on October 17, 1929. Mintz was retired from the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably as a Staff Sgt., during the Korean Conflict and was a veteran of Foreign Wars. While in the service of his country he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Service Medals and four Good Conduct Medals. He was also retired from the Las Cruces Public Schools after 23 years of faithful service. Mintz was an active and dedicated member of the Bethel Second Baptist Church for more than a decade. He enjoyed being of service to God and his community and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Rosie Mintz of the family home; son Ralph Mintz and wife Michelle of Las Cruces; daughters Debbie Mintz-Ortiz and husband Tim of Las Cruces, Gwen Mintz of Nashville, TN, Gail Mintz of Las Cruces and Tracy Rivera and husband Miguel of Puerto Rico; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother David Mintz of Brooklyn, N.Y; sisters Jeanette Mintz and Virginia Zimmerman, as well a multitude of loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Roy Mintz; brothers Virgil Davis, James Davis, A.B. Davis, Willie Mintz and Eugene Mintz; sisters Betty Jean Taylor, Julia Mae Colter and Gloria Mintz; mother-in-law Rosie Brooks and brother-in-law Elvin Wilson. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Bethel Second Baptist Church with Pastor Gregory Arthur officiating.
