Estrada, 83, lifelong resident of Mesilla entered eternal life Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 7, 1927 in Mesilla to Miguel and Eliza Limon Estrada. Mr. Estrada served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II and was decorated with the World War II Victory Medal. He was one of the founding members of the Mesilla Fire Department where he volunteered for over thirty years. While volunteering for the fire department, Mr. Estrada was employed as one of Mesilla's first Deputy Marshal serving under his father, Miguel Estrada, Sr. He retired from White Sands Missile Range after thirty-two years of employment. After retirement, he gained employment as a school bus driver with the Las Cruces Public Schools. Mr. Estrada was a communicant of San Albino Catholic Church where he served as a Mayordomo for twenty-five years and assisted the congregation in transforming San Albino into a Basilica. ! Being driven by honor, faith and the love for his family, Mr. Estrada instilled a strong work ethic, education and his strongest value, family unity to each of his family members. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife, Matilde Garcia Estrada of the family home; two sons, Mike G. Estrada, III and wife, Lucy of El Paso, Texas, John G. Estrada and companion Leti Flores of Las Cruces; Tina Castillo and fiancé Ernest Valenzuela, Matilda Evaro and husband Albert, Alice Estrada and fiancé E. Sal Salazar all of Las Cruces, Terry Estrada and Helen Estrada both of Mesilla, Lorna Ervin of Kuwait; three brothers, Ricardo Estrada of Mesilla, Jimmy Estrada of Garden Grove, California, Lalo Estrada of Las Cruces; a sister, Lily Garcia of Mesilla. Other survivors include twelve grandchildren, Joe A. Castillo, David Castillo, Miguel Estrada IV, Sadie Russell, Anthony Correa, Kristina Correa, Robert Avalos, Raymond Avalos, Nicole Nunnelee, T.J. Scanlon, Jarrett Scanlon and Sean Christopher; two great grandchildren, Zacharias Adrian Castillo and Marcos Santiago Castillo as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Visitation for Mr. Estrada will begin at 6:30 PM Thursday, October 14, 2010 in San Albino Catholic Church, 2290 Calle de Principal in Mesilla where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10 AM Friday, October 15, 2010 in the same church with Reverend Richard Catanach officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho with military honors accorded by a Fort Bliss Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League - El Perro Diablo Detachment. Serving as casket bearers will be John Estrada, Mike Estrada III, Anthony Correa, Joe Castillo, David Castillo, Miguel Estrada IV, and Albert Evaro, Arsario Garcia, Memo Rivera, Ernest Valenzuela, E. Sal Salazar, Sadie Russell and Kristina Correa.
