Lucero Nester, a precious woman and mother, went home to be with her Savior on October 16th, 2010. She was incredible! Bertha was born and raised in Las Cruces, and graduated from Las Cruces Union High School. She was married in the Main Street St. Genevieve's Catholic Church to Harold A. Nester, her husband of 52 years. Bertha and Harold raised 8 children all while working full time as a legal secretary. She is survived by her children, which include her son Charles, and wife Peggy Nester of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; son Fred Nester of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son-in-law Dan and wife Janet Kinzer of El Segundo, California; daughter Teri and husband Russ Weber of Ventura, California; daughter Cindy and husband Tom Bell of San Marcus, California; daughter Rene and husband Jim Viera of Ventura, California; son David and wife Debbie of Corona, California; and daughter Lorie and husband Brent Osborne of Merlin, Oregon. She always managed to love each one of us, including her 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, in such a very special way, so that each one of us felt as though we were very unique and special. She is also survived by two sisters, Rosalie Fierro of Las Cruces, and Patricia Carrillo of Mesa, Arizona, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha was an avid reader and sports fanatic. Kobe has lost his greatest fan. The legacy she leaves can never be bought; one of unconditional love, always putting others before herself. No words can describe how much she will be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose B. Lucero and Bertha Bombach Lucero; 2 brothers, 7 sisters; her husband Harold Nester, who passed away November 19, 2000; and her daughter Nina Kinzer, who passed away in 1987. Cremation has taken place and an internment has been completed at the National Cemetery in Riverside, California. A Memorial Mass will be held at 6pm on Monday, October 25th, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina Street. Celebrant will be Father Donald J. Adamski, O.F.M. Conv. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations are made to the American Cancer Society or Veterans of Foreign Wars.
