Author: marcenath Surnames: Parra, Barragan, Rios Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newmexico.counties.donaana/4752/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Jose Inez Parra, of Las Cruces, NM, passed peacefully from the arms of his loving family to those of his Heavenly Father and Lord, on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Mesilla Valley Hospice, La Posada. He was born April 20, 1935, to Francisco and Margarita Barragan Parra in Cedillos, Chihuahua, Mexico. In 1955, Inez migrated to New Mexico and began his twenty year employment at Stahmann Farms, where shortly after he met his future wife, Cruz Rios. Among his many duties, some highlights included assisting with the construction of the first Stahmann Farms airfield, being a foreman at the Santo Tomas and Snow Ranch farms, and being selected to start a pecan farm in Mojave Valley, AZ; but his biggest treasure through the years there were all the friendships he gained for a lifetime. Afterwards, he worked at the Sara Lee L'Eggs Hosiery plant for ten years. Inez loved his game of baseball, in his younger years he played on the Santo Tomas baseball team. He also danced with the Pastorelas and Matachines of Santo Tomas and loved to sing. He was a faithful Christian and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. Inez is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cruz R. Parra; his children, Ramona R. Parra (Luis M. Arellano, Sr.); Maria Cristina Parra-Zaragoza (Juan Zaragoza,); Mauricio Parra (Cecilia Chavirra-Parra); Antonio Parra (Tara Murray-Parra); Esteban Parra (Kimberly Wendorf-Parra) and Maria Inez Piñeda (John Piñeda). Also surviving are his grandchildren Victor Brown (Courtney Chadwick); Karisa Parra; Arianna Piñeda; Alina Fassa; Liam Parra; Juan Zaragoza; Aidan Parra; Luis Jr., Armando, Angel, Michelle, and Teresa Arellano; John and Daniel Piñeda; and his great-granddaughters, his "little angels", Natalie Brown; Alexys Arellano and Tara Chadwick. He is also survived by two brothers Benjamin Parra (Maria) and Angel Parra (Antonia), and many nieces, nephews, and other family. He is preceded in death by his beloved son Victor Parra; his parents Francisco and Margarita Parra; his two sisters Manuela Puga and Julia Martinez; and five brothers Tomas, Ezequiel, Ramon, Jesus, and Isabel Parra. Visitation for Jose will be on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. at Getz Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral mass will be on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Tony and Steve Parra, Victor Brown, John Pineda, Luis Arellano Sr., and Juan Zaragoza. Honorary pallbearers are Mauricio, Angel and Benjamin Parra, Danny P.
