Beloved wife of Joseph Rodrigues Sapena, loving mother to Elihu Carranza, Jr., Judy Dunfield, Rebecca Carranza, Andrew Carranza and Nancy Jewett. Grandmother to Mathew, Julie Ann, Joel, Henry, Robert, and David. Great-grandmother to Pia, Darin, Michael and Jessica. Andrew her son and Mathew her grandson preceded her in death. Dora was blessed to have seven sisters, Gloria Perez, Viola Arzaga, Beatrice Villarreal, Martha Beardsley, Lydia Ekendahl, Maxine Long, Irene Alvarado and a brother David Armijo. Viola preceded Dora in death and Gloria passed away five days after Dora. Dora also leaves a daughter-in-law Susan Carranza, two son-in-laws Jeff Jewett and Jake Lyhne; Mel Dunfield remained a very close friend to the family. Dora had many nieces and nephews. Dora was born and raised in Mesquite, New Mexico where she has many relatives she visited often. She left New Mexico when she was in high school and came to San Jose. She attended Lincoln High School and graduated. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends. She loved being with her family and with all of her sisters, and Brother David. Dora was gifted, she was an artist. She loved to paint, crochet and knit. Dora enjoyed being a business woman. She and her husband Joe started with a unit and ended with four Taco Bell restaurants. She was a strong advocate against family violence. She was a member of Soroptimist International for thirty-five years. She was also District Director for the Sierra Pacific Region and she was so successful that many wanted her to run for the top position - Area Governor. However, after her son Andrew's death, she slowed her activities She was a member of Grace Baptist Church for many years. There will be "Celebration of Her Life," at Grace Baptist Church located at 484 E. San Fernando Street, San Jose, Ca. 95112 on September 25, 2010 at 10 a.m. Friends and relatives are invited to come to a reception at Mariani's Restaurant & Inn located at 2500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, Ca - following the Church Service. Donations can be sent to: Coalition of Pulmonary Fibrosis; 1659 Branham Lane, Suite F227, San Jose, CA 95118. There will be a private burial for the immediate family that will be held at Santa Cruz Memorial Park, Santa Cruz, Mariposa Gardens. She will be deeply missed by all of us.
