Gomez, 60, of Las Cruces, on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born February 12, 1950 in Santa Fe to Telesforo and Gregorita Romero Manzanares. Virginia was a homemaker and a member of the Roman Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Those left to mourn her passing include her son, Andrew Lucero and wife Lupe of El Paso, Texas; her daughter, Barbara Valenzuela and husband Junie of Las Cruces; three brothers, Steve Manzanares and wife Gracie, Telesforo Manzanares Jr. and wife Felicia, George Manzanares and wife Vicky all of Las Cruces; four sisters, Ramona Sanchez and husband Eugene, Ida Manzanares and Connie Manzanares all of Las Cruces, and Theresa Respert and husband Marcus of Atlanta Georgia. Others survivors include eight grandchildren, David, Nathan and Mykaela Sanchez, Ashley and Crystal Valenzuela, Brianna Lucero, Andy and Steven Hernandez. She is preceded in death by her husband Cipriano Gomez, Jr.; her parents, Telesforo and Gregorita Manzanares; a son, David Sanchez; a sister, Isabel Herrera; a brother, Ignacio Manzanares; two nephews, Grey Herrera, and Eugene M. Sanchez, Jr. Visitation for Virginia will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral 1240 S. Espina, with Reverend Sean Garrity officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho where she will be laid to rest. Serving as casket bearers will be Telesforo, Steve and George Manzanares, Eugene Sanchez, Leonard Almaquer and George Manzanares Jr. Honorary bearers will be David A., Nathan and Mykaela Sanchez, Ashley Valenzuela, Andy and Steven Hernandez.
