One of twelve children, he was born in Rush Spring, Oklahoma, on July 24, 1926, to Albert Lee and Lou Shackleford Curtis. He was preceded in death by his parents, by brothers Robert Lee Curtis, Hawkins, Texas, and Leon Curtis, Roswell, and by sisters Thelma Blanscet, Comanche, Texas, and Paralee Hawthorne, Bakersfield, Calif. He is survived by brothers David Curtis, Austin, Texas; Tommy Curtis, Pueblo West, Colo.; and Conny Curtis, Georgetown, Texas; sisters, Royce Spencer, Edmond, Okla.; Nadine Wilson, Lovington; Christine Jackson, Paramount, Calif.; and Louetta Ogle, Sevierville, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held by Dean's family at a later date. The family expresses its thanks to Dean's guardian, Dave Parsons, and his caregivers at Lessons of Life LLC.
