Cooley, 77, on Thursday, October 28, 2010. He was born to Rollin and Buelah (Boultinghouse) Cooley on October 24, 1933 in Alton, KS. After he graduated from high school he served in the U.S. Army for 3 years during the Korean War where he received training with the Engineering Department. He returned to Kansas and served 8 years in the Kansas Army Reserve. He graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics. A career move sent him out to the southwest and landed him in Las Cruces where he worked in the Defense Mapping Agency at White Sands Missile Range for 27 years. After his retirement, he remained active in numerous organizations such as: Dona Ana County Associated Sportsmen (DACAS), AMVETS, VFW #10124, Moose Lodge, Eagles, American Legion and Game and Fish. He enjoyed serving on the numerous committees, community projects, and offices. Noel loved the solitude of the wilderness and was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, camping, and hunting. He loved piddling around the house and yard. He was quite adept at designing tools and other gadgets to make these sometimes mundane tasks simpler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rollin and Buelah Cooley and his brothers, Derrold Cooley of Denver, CO., and Lee Cooley of Osborne, KS.; brother-in-laws, Ted Blank of Natoma, KS., and Ernest Macha of Grain Valley, MO. Survivors include his daughter, Pam Poitevint (Craig-husband) of Las Cruces, NM; son, Richard Cooley of Albuquerque, NM.; grandson, Forrest Sweet of Albuquerque, NM.; granddaughter Lindsay Poitevint of Las Cruces, NM.; sisters Clorice Blank of Natoma, KS.; Ruth Macha of Grain Valley, MO.; Sibyl Hale of Loves Park, IL.; and brothers Roy Cooley (Alice-wife) of Mesa, AZ.; and Mart Cooley (Rhonda-wife) of Ft. Collins, CO. He will truly be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins that he left behind. The family would like to extend a gracious "Thank you" to the staff at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice. We will eternally be grateful to a group of complete strangers who came into our father's life and treated him with loving care, compassion and dignity. We would also like to thank Paul at Getz Funeral Home who assisted in our father's cremation. Upon our father's request there will be no memorial services. He will be laid to rest this spring in Alton, Kansas in the family's plot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, NM or to a charity of your choice. Published in Las Cruces Sun-News on November 13, 2010 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
