Marilyn was born July 28, 1929, in Syracuse, New York to Mathias A. and Anna Prehn Frey, where she was a graduate of Hartwick College. In 1954, Marilyn traveled on a freighter with husband, Rev. F. Leland Ingalls and their infant son, to a three-year assignment with the West Coast Berbice Parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in British Guiana. After her husband's death in 1958, Marilyn remained in Philadelphia, until her move to Silver City in 2005 to be near her two daughters. As a young widow, Marilyn guided her young family of three with kindness, encouragement, and much love. In Philadelphia, she returned to school receiving a Masters in Early Childhood Education. She taught nursery school for many years, had a passion for photography and dollhouses, wrote curriculum for the Lutheran Synod, and worked for Elder Craftsman before forming a partnership in an arts supply store with Diana until 1996 when she retired. Quiet, reserved, and strong, Marilyn was a role model and calming influence for many young teens during their turbulent teenage years setting an example of determination, grace, and humor under pressure. In addition to her three children, she is survived by one brother, Mathias (Carol) Frey of Cicero, N.Y.; grandsons David (Carrie) and Lee Leyba, and Matthew Margerum; and one great granddaughter Allegra Leyba.. A memorial service will be held at Marilyn's favorite hangout, Java the Hut in Silver City, on Wednesday January 5 from 9-11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mimbres Region Arts Council's Youth Mural Program in her name (PO Box 1830 , Silver City NM 88062). There will be a private burial service later in January in Syracuse, NY.
