A memorial service will be held at Bright Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. He was born March 13, 1932, in Mangum, Okla., to Waynie and Floyd Laws. He married Barbara Knight in 1949. They lived in Texas for many years, having three children and later moving to New Mexico. Mr. Laws owned and operated Grant County Title for 25 years. He later moved to Las Cruces, where he and his wife made their home with their son Bob, who is also their best friend, close by. Mr. Laws worked for Sierra County Title in Las Cruces until he retired earlier this year. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved nothing more than to be out deer and bird hunting with his sons, grandsons and great-grandson, and fishing, including his trip to Canada with his son-in-law and his grandson, or just relaxing in his Airstream trailer that he called his home away from home at Ricky Dee's RV Park. He loved to be surrounded by his family and friends, as he always had a smile on his face and a big hug to give. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him. Mr. Laws is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Jacobs of Silver City; his sons, Jerry Laws and his wife, Lisa, of Silver City, and Robert Bob Laws of Las Cruces; his grandchildren, Bo Laws of Silver City, Wendi Laws of Austin, Texas, Kirk Jacobs and his wife, Stephanie, of Tucson, Ariz., Adrian and Jennifer Melon of Silver City, and Philip Laws of Las Cruces; his great-grandchildren, Adrian Melon Jr. of Silver City, Graham Wagner of Austin, and Autumn Laws, Titus Laws and Lozen Laws, all of Silver City; and his dog, Bitsy, of the family home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Waynie and Floyd Laws; his wife, Barbara; his son-in-law, Gene Jacobs; and his great-grandchildren, Esai and Echo Laws. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, 210 W. College Ave. Phone 388-1911.
