Rivas, 71, of Las Cruces, left his dwelling place on earth and entered eternal life to be with his heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 14, 1939 in San Bernardino, California to Jose M. and Alberta Espinoza Rivas. Mr. Rivas served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a Life Insurance Agent with American National. He was a member of the VFW Post #3242, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #506 in San Bernardino, California and the Independent Order of Foresters. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife, Jennie Rivas of the family home; two sons, Richard D. Rivas and wife, Elizabeth of Fontana, California, René R. Rivas and companion, Jessica Morales of Las Cruces; a daughter, Teresa M. Hamlett and husband Michael of Ontario, California; four brothers, Albert J. Rivas and wife Nellie of Las Cruces, Ronald M. Rivas and wife Antoinette of Rialto, California, Larry Rivas of Colton, California, Phillip Rivas and wife Tammy of Bloomington, California; four sisters, Rachel Ramirez of Moreno Valley, California, Marion Rivas of Yucaipa, California, Stella Tovar of Bloomington, California, Lisa Ordaz and husband Joe of Calimesa, California. Other survivors include nine grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for Mr. Rivas will begin at 6 PM Monday, December 6, 2010 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Liturgy at 10 AM Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Parish, 3600 Parroquia Street in Tortugas with Reverend Vince Petersen officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho with military honors accorded by a Fort Bliss Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League - El Perro Diablo Detachment. Serving as casket bearers will be Richard, René, Angel and Albert Rivas, Cruz Campos and Michael Hamlett. Honorary bearers will be Ronald M., Larry and Phillip Rivas.
