Maria Luisa came to Las Cruces in 1958 after moving here from Valle de Zaragosa, Chihuahua where she was born on June 21, 1942 to Julian Salcido and Francisca Barraza. She was born a premature baby and was not expected to live overnight. Maria Luisas' will to live carried her for 68 years through many illnesses. Maria was married to Alberto Rubio for 20 years. She found her place of peace in Las Cruces where she raised her children. Maria Luisa was a proud homemaker and enjoyed mothering her children of 5, who survive her honor, her son Albert Rubio Jr. (Maria Elena of California,) Angie Quintana (Javier), Lorena Sanchez (Dennis), Merlinda Gaines (Demond) and Gracie Montes(partner Travis). Maria Luisa is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her Father Julian, Mother Francisca, sisters Socorro Morales, Manuelita Ortiz and Rosalie Jabr, a brother Angel Salcido. Her only surviving sibling is Oswaldo Salcido of California. Maria Luisa worked in the Pecan Orchards for Stahman Farms in her younger years. She enjoyed going to Bingo and on occasion going to the Casino as a pastime. She was a very kind and generous person. She would take some items for sale to the Flea Market and when she was finished selling her goal for the day she would leave her treasures behind for someone else to sell and would allow them to keep the profits. Her favorite dessert was empanadas and she would make them regularly for all of the families to enjoy. Her favorite colors were Teal and Red. One of her favorite things to do was plant and grow vegetables. The aspect of watering and the ability to grow from the earth were true pleasure for her. Maria Luisa, self conscious about her 4' 11" height, always wore her tacones. Whether she was doing yard work or shopping you would always find her in her heels. Maria Luisa loved her children with all of the heart God gave her to care with to the very end of her days. Her smile a! nd her stories will be greatly missed. Pallbearer will be Dennis J. Sanchez, Dennis C. Sanchez, Javier Quintana, Robert Reyna, Albert Rubio Jr., and Travis Welsh. Three words that sum up the life: Tender, Caring and very Nurturing. Visitation with family will be Wednesday December 8th 2010 at La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday December 9th 2010 at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church, burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
