Siegel, a long-time Las Cruces resident, died Saturday December 11, at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice. Born in 1931, Barbara married Sanford M. Siegel in 1951 and had four children, Stephanie, Andrea, Peter, and David. In addition to her sons and their spouses, she is survived by six grandchildren and their families, including 3 great grandchildren. Barbara met her husband at the University of Chicago and raised her four children while completing her PhD at Yale University and as a Professor and dean of Public Health at the University of Hawaii. She and husband Sanford were well known in Hawaii for their work with students from underprivileged families and their research on environmental issues. Barbara retired from professorship at NMSU and enjoyed an active life in the Las Cruces community and travelling the world. She was an active congregat at Temple Beth-El and a devoted friend to many. A memorial service will be held today at 3:00PM Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Temple Beth-El. Arrangements are with La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home.
