He was born in Itan, Texas on May 19, 1926 and grew up in Socorro, New Mexico. He later joined the U.S. Air Force in 1944 during WWII. He returned to New Mexico College of Agricultural & Mechanical Arts, now known as New Mexico State University. He graduated in February 1950 and worked for Olin Matheson Chemical Corporation. Jesse met the love of his life in 1949, Shirley Entrikin, and they were married September 2, 1950 in Las Cruces. He was recalled into the Air Force in August 1950 until 1952. He returned to his job with Olin Matheson and lived in Texas until 1970 when he joined Lincoln National Life Insurance Company and moved to Richmond, Virginia. While with Lincoln, Jesse earned his Charter Life Underwriter designation. He retired in 1987 and returned with his wife to Las Cruces in 1988. They spent their summers together at their Canadian home in Northwest Ontario. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley E. Parker; son, Thomas H. Parker and wife Rhonda of Greenup, Kentucky; daughter, Nancy Parker Tickle of Midlothian, Virginia; brother, Joseph E. Parker and wife Betty of Las Cruces; grandchildren, Joshua V. Parker, Joseph T. Parker, Derick E. Tickle, Brittany L. Parker, and Lyndsey J. Tickle; great-granddaughter, Alana P. Parker; niece, Lee Ann Parker; nephew, Michael Parker and wife Barbara; great-niece, Gena Castillo and husband Jaime; cousins, Carol and Ron Paynter, Pam VanVekoven, Kim and Dave Norvel, Debbie Sweem and Becky Simpson; great-great nephews and niece, Cameron, Grayson, and Brennan Castillo. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse L. Parker; mother, Kate M. Parker; brother, Jack M. Parker, cousin, John T. Sweem, sister-in-law, Barbara G. Parker, and great-niece Jennifer V. Hamilton. Services will be held on Friday, December 3, 2010, at the Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Road, Las Cruces, at 2:30 in the afternoon with a reception following at First Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Boutz Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD, 21741-5018 or at www.parkinson.org. The family would like to give special thanks to Alaina Johnson, Jay Robb, and the staff at the Heritage Assisted Living Home and the Mesilla Valley Hospice for their loving care given to Jesse.
