Luz was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, on June 3, 1924. She married Jesus Sanchez, who preceded her in death. They made their home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She and Jesus had five children: Alma Sanchez Lewis, deceased (husband Michael), Susie Saiz, Armando Sanchez (wife Inez), Ruth Sanchez, Jesus Alfonso Sanchez, and nephew Robert Ortega (wife Alice) was also raised by Luz as a son. She has one surviving sister, Blasa Soto. Luz was a wonderful cook, homemaker, mother, and a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Health Catholic Church. She welcomed everyone to her home and table. Luz was known as a kind and generous person who was very much loved by family, neighbors, and friends. Her legacy of beloved grandchildren includes: Laurie Anderson, Benjamin Saiz, Clarissa Saiz, Orlando Sanchez, Adam Sanchez, Abraham Sanchez, John Quinones, Kristin Hayes, Daniel Sanchez, Alfonso Armando Sanchez, Javier Isac Sanchez, Bianca Marie Sanchez, Julio Cesar Sanchez, Michelle Ortega, and DeAnne Ortega. Luz also leaves behind 17 great-grandchildren. A prayer vigil will be prayed at 10 AM on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church with her Funeral Mass to follow. The Augustinian Recollects will be officiating. Rite of Committal will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. The honor of being a pallbearer will go to Mrs. Sanchez's grandsons.
