Cissie, as she was known to family and friends, was born in the Territory of Hawaii on March 3rd, 1923 to Colonel Russell G. and Laurea Moore Ayers. She married Commander Roger F. Smith at the Presidio Officer's Club in San Francisco, CA on May 13, 1944. Cissie moved to Roseburg with her family in 1960. She worked in sales and production for KPIC-TV, and KQEN Radio. She was a member of the Roseburg Chapter of Zonta International, Izaak Walton League, a Den-mother for the Boy Scouts of America, and served as President of the St. George's Episcopal Church Women. Cissie moved to Las Cruces, NM in 2003, following Roger's death in 2001. She is survived by her brother, Col. Leslie Ayers, of Soquel, CA, children, Terryann Macke and husband James of Portland, OR, Roderick Smith of San Diego, CA, Russell Smith and wife Mercy of Las Cruces, NM, Maria Smith of Las Cruces, NM, and Laurea Arnoldt and husband Roy of Las Cruces, NM, 9 grand-children, and 8 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Rodney Smith and daughter Lesley B. Vaughns. There will be a private memorial in Las Cruces.
