Aldaz Sr., 89, of Anthony Monday, February 21, 2011 at Franklin Heights Nursing and Rehab Center in El Paso, Texas. "Negro" as he was fondly known to his family and friends was born December 16, 1921, in Anthony to Alejo and Elena Alvillar Aldaz. He served his country honorably in the United State Army during World War II and worked for the Bureau of Land Management as a maintenance man, and cook for the firefighters and volunteers of wild fires for many years. He was a communicant at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Consuelo Aldaz of the family home; two sons, Alejandro Aldaz Jr., and Bobby Aldaz both of Anthony; a daughter, Gloria Padilla and husband Luis of El Paso, Texas; a brother, Luis "Lichi" Aldaz of Las Cruces; a sister, Maggie Rosales of California. Other survivors include nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Aldaz, and four brothers. Visitation for Mr. Aldaz will begin at 6 PM Thursday, February 24, 2011 in St. Anthony Catholic Church, 224 Lincoln Avenue where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10 AM Friday, February 25, 2011 in the same church with Reverend Andres Alava officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Anthony Cemetery with military honors accorded by New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the members of the VFW Post # 4384 of Anthony. Serving as casket bearers will be Alex Jr., Bobby, Alejo and Joseph Aldaz, Gilbert and David Padilla. Honorary bearers will be Luis and Michael Padilla, and Robert Aldaz.
