Myers, FL The House on Thursday voted 223-187 to pass the Guadalupe-Hidalgo Treaty Land Claims bill. The bill establishes a presidential commission to make recommendations to resolve land claims in New Mexico by descendants of people who were Mexican citizens when the treaty ending the Mexican-American War was signed in 1848. 211 Republicans and 12 Democrats voted for the bill; 10 Republicans, 176 Democrats and 1 Independent voted against.
