He was born Nov. 16, 1935 in Velarde, NM to Juan and Amada Montoya. Sam served active duty in the USN for four years and eight years in the Navy Reserve. He was a truck driver for 35 years and retired from Roadway Express in 1998. Sam had been a Las Cruces resident for over forty years. Survivors include his wife of nineteen years, Alice Montoy of the home; sons, Kenny (Yvonne of Phoenix, AZ., Tommy and companion Julie Bustamante of Mesilla, W. Ron Camunez of Las Cruces; daughters, Angela Marquez and husband Michael of Las Vegas, NV, Desiree Diaz and husand Richard of Albuquerque, NM, Delilah Chavez and husband Tommuy of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers, Pat Montoya and wife Mary, Tony Montoya and wife Margie, Mike Montoya and wife Flora all of Espanola; sisters, Margaret Martinez, Selena Martinez, both of Velarde, NM; ten grandchildren, Paul, Amanda, Robert, Gregory, Brandon, Eric, Jason, Cassie, Chris and Desiree. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Andres, Lee and Joe Montoya, sister Timia Martinez and grandson, Joshua Marquez. Funeral Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral with Fr. Robert Power, burial at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Pallbearers: Paul and Danny Montoya, Brandon Chavez, Eric Diaz, Robert & Michael Marquez, Honorary bearers: Richard Diaz, Tommy Chavez, Michael Montoya, Jason Diaz, Art Telles, Leo Medina and E. L.
