He was born September 19, 1931 in Mesilla to Gabriel and Cipriana Lara Parra. Mr. Parra served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired as a construction laborer. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include four sons, Marcos Parra and wife Antonia, Bobby Parra, Richard Parra all of Las Cruces, Danny Parra and companion Maria of Indio, California; three daughters, Reyna Martinez of Doña Ana, Jennie Najera and husband Tony of Indio, California and Norma Jean Cabañas; a brother, Henry Parra of Los Angeles, California, two sisters, Gloria Lopez, Mary Helen Valenciano and husband Manuel all also of Las Cruces. Other survivors include fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Enriqueta Rivera Parra; second wife, Concepcion Parra; a grandson, Joshua Martinez; a brother, Edward "Pipi" Parra and a sister, Estela Garcia. Visitation for Mr. Parra will begin at 9 AM Friday, April 30, 2010 in Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church, 5525 Cristo Rey where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 10 AM. The Funeral Mass will follow immediately thereafter with Reverend Miguel Macaya officiating. Military honors will be accorded by a Fort Bliss Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League - El Perro Diablo Detachment. Cremation will follow and inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date.
