Steve lost his battle was cancer on April 2, 2011 at the age of 62. A vigil will be held Tuesday, April 5th at 7pm at St. Mary Catholic Church in Montrose. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 6th at 10am. Steve graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1966 and received his Bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University. in 1981. Steve had many hobbies and interests including a life-long passion for playing music. He was known in the Montrose community for playing the saxophone for the Holy Rollers and Main St. Blues' Band. Steve and family moved to Montrose in 1991, where he became active with St. Mary Catholic Church. His most recent and meaningful career opportunity was as the Business Manager for St. Mary Catholic Church. Steve also had a varied professional background and education with a Master's Degree in Logistics Engineering. He enjoyed many professions throughout his life including owner/operator of a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise, Logistics Engineer for General Dynamics, Concert Chairman for New Mexico State University. He was recognized for being the top Membership Representative for National University and was an Operations Director for an international marketing company, as well as a Business Office Manager for a medical billing office. Steve held the distinction for longest serving ! member on the San Juan Credit Union board of directors here in Montrose, and was also an alumnus of Montrose Valley Leadership group. In retirement, Steve had planned to become a life coach to help others through tough times. Steve was a beloved father, brother, husband, son, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Steve is survived by his mother of Las Cruces, New Mexico, two brothers, Ben of Las Cruces and Henry of Dallas, Texas, a sister, Cindy Zyzak from Maryland, wife Carol of Montrose, and three daughters; Stephanie Long of Grand Junction, Colorado, Candice Dominguez from Los Angeles, California, and Marissa Karchut of Spearfish, South Dakota. Steve also had three grandchildren, Austin and Tyler of South Dakota and Audrey of Grand Junction. The Dominguez family would like to offer their deepest gratitude for the overwhelming love and support the Montrose community showed Steve throughout his battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Montrose, CO.
