Lt. Col. Robert C. Hodges, 83, of Fountain Hills, Arizona, passed away in his home on March 19, 2011. His viewing will be held on April 4, 2011 at Bright Funeral Home in Silver City, New Mexico from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held with Full Military Honors at Fort Bayard National Cemetery on April 5, 2011 at 1 p.m. He was born in Silver City, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph William Hodges and Eva Dunlavy Hodges. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and received the merit badge of Life. He attended Western High School in Silver City, New Mexico where he served on the Football team, Basketball team, and was a member of the Chorus. He graduated from New Mexico Military Institute with a Bachelors degree of Business Administration in 1950, proceeding to dedicate his entire career to the Armed Forces. He served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. A few of his significant awards are the Combat Infantryman badge, Jumpmaster badge, Bronze Star Medal with "V" device, and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf which resulted from 32 years in the Armed Forces. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, VFW, DAV, and Sertoma. In 2003, he and his family moved to Fountain Hills, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Mary Laney Hodges; daughter, Ruthie Eva Hodges; son Robert Criner Hodges Junior (Fiancé Cheryle Porter); grandchildren, Simon Barefoot (Wife, Amy Barefoot), Gavin Hodges, Liam Hodges (mother, April Williamson), Katelyn Warmuth and Kimberly Boers; brothers, Joe Hodges (wife, Dottie Hodges) and Norman Hodges; sister, Eva Hodges Watt; nephews and cousins as well as his loving pets, Duke and Dutchess. Contributions should be made in memoriam to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
