She was born September 1, 1935 in Benton Harbor, MI to Maurice and Edna Shepherdson. As a devoted member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, she served as a religious educator for 17 years. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Don Kuhlman; daughters, Sue Gutierrez and husband, David, Lori Kamphuis and husband, Tom, Anita Gutierrez and husband, Jerry, and Kathryn Perry and husband, Robert. Other survivors include a brother, Robert Shepherdson and wife, Cheryl; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 10 AM, Friday, April 8, 2011 in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda Street. The Funeral Liturgy will follow immediately thereafter with Monsignor John Anderson, officiating. Cremation will follow and Inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date at the St. Francis Columbarium. Serving as casket bearers will be Erik Gutierrez, J.J. Gutierrez, Chad Gutierrez, David Gutierrez, Jerry Gutierrez and Robert Perry. Joan was a devoted and very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. You will be greatly missed.
