He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Florence Swedberg, his brothers John Gray and Gerald Swedberg, and his sister Virginia Zwicke. His sister Genevieve Cavanaugh survives. Jim was born in Albuquerque on April 10, 1936. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Oahu, Hawaii in 1956, got his BS from New Mexico State in 1959, and an MS from the University of Arizona in 1979. Jim was a life-long learner who had an inquisitive mind. Among his hobbies were woodworking, genealogy, archeology, astronomy, gardening, bicycling, fishing and backpacking with his family. Jim built furniture, telescopes and ukuleles. He was a member of the Mesilla Valley Chorale. A lifelong Missouri Synod Lutheran and president of Mission Lutheran in Las Cruces at the time of his death, Jim gave selflessly to his church, his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He is survived by Kay, his wife of 54 years, his daughters Jennifer Bohnhoff and husband Henry of Albuquerque, Wendy Macdonald and husband Robert of Duxbury, MA, Heather Patrick and husband Robert of Alamogordo, and Heidi Swedberg and husband Philip Holahan of Los Angeles, CA. His grandchildren are Matt, James and John Bohnhoff, Sarah Macdonald, and Oona and Lyra Holahan. A memorial service is scheduled for 3pm Saturday, April 16th at Mission Lutheran Church, 2752 Roadrunner Pkwy, Las Cruces. A pot luck supper will follow. "Save your fork."
