VARGAS, 56, of Albuquerque on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at his home. He was born November 3, 1954 in Las Cruces to Manuel and Maria Medina Vargas. "Flipper" as he was fondly known to his family and friends was a truck driver by trade. He enjoyed motorcycles and was a member of the Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include two sons, Phillip Carrillo of Las Cruces, Joshua Mangum and wife Brandy of Provo, Utah; two daughters, Vanessa Carrillo-Chapman and husband Shane of Dallas, Texas, Amanda Vicenta Lopez of Las Cruces; his father, Manuel O. Vargas of Las Cruces; his companion, Patricia Payne of Albuquerque; three brothers, Manuel and Richard Vargas both of Las Cruces, Raúl Vargas of Albuquerque; four sisters, Guadalupe De La Rosa and husband Benito, Yolanda Vargas, Flora Torres and husband Ronnie all of Las Cruces, Julie Gonzales and husband Michael of Tucson, Arizona. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Alyssa Carrillo, Monte and Johnny Mangum, and Adrianna Duron. He was preceded in death by his mother; a brother, Pete Vargas and a grandson, Shane Chapman, Jr. Visitation for Flipper will begin at 6 PM Wednesday, April 13, 2011 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10 AM Thursday, April 14, 2011 in Our Lady of Health Catholic Church, 1178 N. Mesquite Street with the Fathers of the Augustinian Recollects officiating. Cremation will follow and inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date. Serving as casket bearers will be Hector Enriquez, Luis Rigales, Jr., Ruben Medina, Ernesto Avalos, Michael Ray and Julian Gonzales. Honorary bearers will be Diana, Susan and Olivia Enriquez.
