Morán passed on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Teresa was born May 24th, 1931, in Mapimi, Durango, Mexico to Atanacio Garcia and Gregoria Mendoza Garcia. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Rafael V. Morán. They were married in 1950 and had five children: Ralph Moran (Angeles) of Illinois, Elena, Anna Snyder (Bruce) of Colorado, Carlos Morán (Veronica) of Texas, Martha Edwards (David) of Texas: as well as nine grand children: Susan, Erin, Ralph Jr., Michael, Christina, Naomi, Ruth, Ana, and Joel. Other survivors include four great grand children: Faith, Jennavieve, Lorelei, and Noah. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter Elena. Teresa and her husband moved to the southern Valley of Dona Ana County in the early 1950's. Her husband was one of several braceros hired to work on a pecan orchard. At the age of 46, Teresa enrolled in adult education class at the Dona Ana Branch Community College to prepare for U.S. citizenship, learn English, and received a high school equivalent diploma. Through, intelligence, tremendous courage, and tenacity, she earned a bachelor's degree in foreign languages in 1984 from New Mexico State University. Throughout her career as an educator, she encouraged her students to work hard, stay in school, and make learning a lifelong experience.She had a great love for music, poetry, history, and reading. But her greatest joy was her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to family, especially to our Tía, Socorro Garibay, to friends, neighbors, and the medical professionals who helped and supported our! beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 17th at 5:00 pm at Baca's Funeral Chapel 300 E. Boutz Road. A memorial service will follow at 6:00pm. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, April 18th, at the Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Rd. in Las Cruces, NM.
