A private committal service will be held at Saint Albert the Great Newman Center in Las Cruces New Mexico on Saturday April 9 at 2 PM. The family will attend a mass which is to be held at 8:30 AM Sunday, April 10. Gerald was born in Remus Michigan on May 26, 1940 to John and Augusta (Snider) Flachs. He attended Michigan State University and received his Ph. D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1967. He married Mary Churchill in 1965 and together they raised Brian and Sharlene in Las Cruces. Gerald served as Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at New Mexico State University from 1969 until 1996 and was awarded the Robert L. Westhafer award for excellence in research in 1996. Gerald was preceded in death by his brothers Eugene and Walter and his sisters Alice Lueder and Teresa Coville. He is survived by his sister Darlene (Jack) Frumveller, wife Mary, son Brian (Lisa), daughter Sharlene (Matthew) and his grandchildren Elise, Emily, Elaine, Luke, Amanda and Brendan whom he adored. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice (299 Montana Ave, Las Cruces NM 88005) or the NMSU Tennis Team.
