Fr. Don Adamski officiated. Eugene died of Pancreatic Cancer at the Las Cruces Hospice on June 28, 2010. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery in Las Cruces. His brothers Richard and David preceded him in death. Eugene was born at Hotel Dieu in El Paso on February 18, 1931, the third son of Bernadette Droste Emerson and James Ritchie Emerson. Eugene attended grammar schools in La Mesa and at St. Patrick's in El Paso. He graduated from Cathedral High School in El Paso and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from New Mexico A&M. After serving two years in the US Army, Eugene returned to the family farm in La Mesa and continued a 60 year farming career. Eugene was known for his love of books and his studies of religion, agriculture, politics, science, mining and history. Eugene is survived by a sister, Carolyn Adams of San Miguel, NM and a brother, Jerome Emerson of San Francisco, California.
