Magallanez, 77, of Las Cruces left his dwelling place on earth and entered eternal life to be with his heavenly father, Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. He was born September 5, 1932 in Ordway, Colorado to Salvador M. and Juliana Alvarez Magallanes. Salvador was a beloved father, friend, uncle and neighbor. A loving father of 8 children, he instilled the sense that hard work leads to its own reward. He believed in the importance of an education which led to all of his children attending college. Upon retiring after 25 years from Inland Steel, he relocated to Las Cruces from Hammond, IN. During much of his retirement, he raised and milked cows. He became known throughout many Las Cruces neighborhoods as "The Asadero Man" delivering the cheese product to countless residents. Several back surgeries did not stop him from tending to his yard and rose garden. People would come from distant locations to visit and clip a rose or two. His green thumb was a feature story on TV about his thriving orange tree, which is uncommon in Las Cruces, thanks to his love to grow, his knowledge, and his efforts. Over the years, he regularly attended, as well as volunteered his time and resources to Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. Those left to mourn his passing include five sons, Felipe Magallanez of Albuquerque, Eduardo Magallanez of San Antonio, Texas, Salvador Magallanez and wife Patricia of San Diego, California; Daniel Magallanes and wife Marissa of Chandler, Arizona; Antonio Magallanez and wife Malissa of San Jose, California; two daughters, Irene Magallanez and husband Paul Hughes of Albuquerque, Anna Delia Magallanez of Waldorf, Maryland; son-in-law, Marcos Montes of Waldorf, Maryland; five brothers, Jose, Guadalupe, Jesus Manuel, Filiberto and Jose Ines Magallanes all of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico; two sisters, Celia Ayala of El Paso, Texas, Amelia Magallanes of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Other survivors include six grandchildren, Nicolas, Carlos and Angelina Montes, Sophie and Evora Magallanez, Natalia Magallanes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria S. Magallanes; a daughter, Carolina Montes. Mr. Magallanez will be reposing Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 3 PM to 5 PM in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road Las Cruces. A Prayer Vigil will follow at 7:30 PM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina, Las Cruces. Family and Friends will join together Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 10 AM to celebrate the Funeral Mass in the same church officiated by Bishop Ricardo Ramirez, C.S.B. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho where he will be laid to rest. Servicing as casket bearers will be Eduardo, Salvador, and Jesus Magallanez, Paul Hughes, Marcos Montes, and Nicolas Montes.
