Jerry was born February 05, 1944 in Lamesa, TX to Harold Buren and Sadie Ayers Cowger. At the time of his death he was retired, but had worked most of his life as a truck driver. He resided in the Mesilla Valley for most of his life. He loved the beautiful scenery of the area, especially the Organ Mountains. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. He had an amazing gift and could make conversation with anyone. He could always be counted on for an interesting tale or two. He was a friend to all and never knew a stranger. Jerry is survived by his brothers Earl Cowger and wife Toni of Mayhill, NM and Jimmie Sellars and wife Janet of Dallas, TX his great-aunt Dorothy Sellars of Salem, NM. His sons Jerry B. Cowger of Alamogordo, NM, Jesse Cowger and wife Jamie and Stacy "Dee" Cowger of Las Cruces, NM and his daughter Jerri "J.J." Herrera and husband Frank of Vado, NM. His grandchildren Leah Cowger, Cody Herrera, Jacob Cowger, Tifanie Cowger, Quintien Cowger and Dylahn Cowger and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and step-parents, his brother Elton "Dub" Cowger, sisters Virginia Cowger and Rosetta "Joyce" Dawson, son Wayne Ray Cowger, and wife Cheryl. Please join the family for a celebration of Jerry's life, a memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Getz funeral home. At his request, cremation has taken place.
