She was born in Gary, Indiana on April 2, 1930 to Gertrude (Elkins) and Harry Hood and christened Patricia Harriet. Educated in Gary public schools and Indiana University, she was married October 18, 1952 to Fredric Hyde Jr. The couple lived in northwest Indiana and western Pennsylvania, moving to Las Cruces in 1988. Pat has three living children, daughter Leslie Morrow of Pittsburgh, PA, son Robert Hyde of Alliance, OH and daughter Ellen Horning of Bath, NY. The Pittsburgh family includes granddaughters Marya Pittaway (and her son Brennan) and Heather Coggins (and her daughters Lydia and Sommer). The Alliance family includes Robb's wife Tammy Zinkhon and grandchildren Sarah, Andrew and Marissa. The Bath family includes Ellen's husband Robert Horning. Patricia was active all her life in charitable and public concerns. She led the fight for (and won) creation of Kindergarten in the Chesterton, IN public school system. A long-time member of the League of Women Voters, she participated extensively in advocacy for water quality in the Ohio River basin. In public life Pat chaired the Upper St. Clair, PA Planning Commission for several years. In Las Cruces, she served for many years in the Memorial Medical Center Auxillary. Currently a member of St. Paul's UMC, she was an active member of the Methodist Church for more than 50 years. The final two weeks of Pat's life were spent at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice where the care and comfort given her was truly exceptional. Pat's family requests that any gifts in her memory be directed to that facility. (299 E. Montana, LC, NM, 88001) Services will be held for Patricia on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, corner of Alameda and Griggs. Final arrangements were made with La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home. At her request she has been cremated and will be inurned at a later date in northwest Indiana.
