Ernesto was born and raised in Dona Ana County and was one of four children. As a young adult Ernesto moved to Mesilla where he began a very productive life working as a farmer and for Shell Oil Company as a gas station owner. He volunteered many hours as a Fireman in Mesilla. He owned and operated a Shell Station in the area and received many awards from Shell. He lived in the pink house at the corner of Avenida de Mesilla and Calle del Norte until 1975 when he built his new home which was just behind the pink house and the current location of Andele's Dog House. Out of his home he worked a chili stand called 4 Seasons Produce for 25 years. Ernesto was married in 1930 to his lifelong partner Rosalia "Chalia" until her passing in 2004; they had two sons, Raymond and Ernest, who is deceased. Those left to mourn his passing include his brother Max of Norwalk, California, son Raymond of Santa Fe, grandson's Marcel and Mike and longtime friend and Conservator, Lisa Willman. Ernesto is preceded in death by his brother Carlos, sisters Rosella and Selsa.
