Jane Hawkins was born Carol Jane McFarland in Albuquerque, NM on March 09, 1939. Friends and family knew her as Jane.often times as "plain Jane", "calamity Jane", sometimes affectionately called "Thunder" by her husband and she called herself the "Black Sheep of the family". From the moment she was born she was a fun-loving, free-spirited gypsy always looking for an open road to explore. She had an innate curiosity about the world around her. She danced and sang her way through life with all the energy and enthusiasm of a Cannonball! Jane was very gifted. She loved to play piano - "Flight of the Bumblebee" was a favorite. She was highly intelligent and enjoyed learning different languages.she could say hello and good-bye in eight different languages. She was an avid reader and had a book in every room. She enjoyed puzzles, especially crossword puzzles and loved any criminal justice program. She always found time to crochet and sew. She loved music and everybody stayed away from the remote control when tennis was on T.V.! Jane loved her independence. To that end she started several businesses of her own-some more or less successful, others more or less not successful. Regardless, she always remained undaunted and optimistic and blasted her way through each challenge like a Tasmanian devil. Jane was a fierce champion and defender of her children. She was a server-in restaurants, in her family, and in her community. She was quick to laugh, even quicker to forgive. She often told her children not to go to bed mad.just go to bed. She loved animals and they loved her. Every stray cat and dog for miles around attached itself to her. She fed and cared for them one and all. She enjoyed watching, feeding and identifying the birds in her front yard with her husband Bryan. To her amazement, complete strangers would walk up to her and confide in her all their troubles.they would walk away laughing and smiling. Always cheerful, Jane would bring a smile to anyone who encountered her. She always displayed her cheerfulness through her sense of humor, her laugh, and by bursting into song and dance ("Fly Me to the Moon", or "Swing on a Star" were her songs of choice!). She was a delight to be with! Jane married Bryan Kenneth Hawkins 35 years ago. It was not the first marriage f! or either, but was most certainly the one that lasted. Jane is survived by a large and loving family, including but not limited to three children; Steve Webb and his spouse Angie and family, Jamie Hawkins and his spouse Yolanda and family, and daughter Lenora Hawkins; two sisters-Neva Parker and Freda McFarland; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of friends all of whom will sorely miss her. Go with God, Jane. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Sunday January 16, 2011 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday January 17, 2011 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Rev. James Large officiating. In lieu of flower Jane's family ask that donation be made in her name to American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or a favorite charity of your choice.
