Beckman, 89, of the Bluffs Senior Living Community in Houghton, died Sunday, January 16, 2011, at her home. She was born on May 16, 1921, in Grayslake, IL, a daughter of the late Charles Mason and Catherine (DeHaan) Mason Wallace. She was a graduate of the Warren Township High School with the class of 1939. Virginia had resided in Lake County, Illinois for 72 years before moving to Silver City, New Mexico where she lived for 17 years. While residing in Silver City she volunteered at the Silver City Museum and the Grant County Sheriff's Office and was a member of the Town and Country Garden Club. Although Virginia spent most of her life in Illinois, she considered Silver City, New Mexico, to be her home. She has resided for the past year and a half locally in Houghton. On February 18, 1942, she was united in marriage to Clarence Beckman and he preceded her in death in November of 1984. While residing in Lake County Illinois Virginia was a member of the Wildwood Presbyterian Church in Wildwood, IL. She also volunteered with the St. Therese Hospital Hospice program. Mrs. Beckman enjoyed spending time gardening and taking care of her cats. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and a nephew Joseph "Micky" McCraren. Survivors include, her children: Catheryn Erickson of Kingman, AZ, Susan (David) Wittmann of Charlotte, NC, Pamela (Steven) Dobbs of Houghton, MI, her grandchildren: Michael Erickson of Waukegan, IL, Kaara (Robert) Borker of Kingman, AZ, Roxanne Dobbs of Houghton, MI, Joe Dobbs of Houghton, MI, her great grandchildren: Andrew and Aaron Borker of Kingman, AZ As requested, no service will take place and burial will be in Silver City, New Mexico at a later date.
