Born at home in North Tiverton, Rhode Island to Manuel and Marisela Bento, he was almost 100 years old. He served his country in the Navy during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific on submarine chasers as a Radioman First Class. After honorable discharge he continued to work for the Department of the Navy as a technical writer until he retired to pursue other interests. John was preceded in death by his first wife and mother to his children, Theresa Mazza, daughter, Joan Castillo, granddaughter Christina Slovak, brother Manuel, sister Mary, and most recently his second wife, Virginia Rose Bush. John is survived by his daughters; Madeline Boyer of New Orleans, Marian Hopper, Marcia Bento, both of Las Cruces, grandchildren Natalie and Loren Bayer, Mike and Ken Coppedge, and Emily and Jenna Castillo of Albuquerque. Memorial services will be held at noon, June 14th, 2011, at 6475 S. Main, Mesilla Park.
