June was a compassionate and courageous woman, and she never stopped fighting. She was born in Cheyenne, WY in 1924 to Wellington Claude and Marie Louise Stein, and graduated high school in 1942. Five years later she completed the Colorado Training School for Nurses in Denver and became a Registered Nurse. In 1949 she married Melvin W. McGuire in Fort Collins, CO after the two met in Southern California - a marriage that lasted till Melvin's death in 1998. The couple had two children, Patrick and Donna. After living in Santa Fe, NM, the McGuire's moved to Las Cruces in 1963. June and Melvin became real estate brokers, and bought into Melvin's family business, the McGuire Agency. The two continued to operate the business until 1998. June was active in the Women's Council of Realtors, having held many offices including Governor of WCR for New Mexico. In 1978 she was named Realtor of the Year by the Las Cruces Board of Realtors, now the Las Cruces Association of Realtors. She was also named president of the board in 1981. But in many ways, June never retired from her role as a nurse, always taking care of family and friends through her life. She was determined and a hard worker, and continued to work as a real estate agent into her early 80s. June had a passion for current events, playing Bridge, and for her family. She had a zeal for life and made each day count. June is survived by her son Patrick and his wife Sylvia; grandchildren Ginger, Shannon and Micah, along with his wife Alex; great grandchildren Nayeli and Isla; and family friends Joni Short, Donna Salter, Bobby and Barbara Ramirez, among many others. She was predeceased by both parents and parents in-law, brothers Johnny and Walter, sister Betty Lassiter and daughter Donna, as well as her husband Melvin. The memorial service will be at First Evangelical Free Church, 1435 S. Pecos, Tue. June 29 at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Powell. Arrangements are with La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home.
