Betty was born May 27, 1920 at her grandfather's home in South Orange, New Jersey. Her parents were Paul and Amelia (Gasdos) Hoffman. When Betty was three, she and her family moved to Venice, CA where she grew up and went to school. She can remember when many of the avenues in Venice were canals rather than normal streets. Betty married William (Bill) Beekman in 1942 shortly before Bill joined the US Army. While Bill was in WWII service, she worked as a secretary for Union Hardware Co. in Los Angeles. When Bill returned, she was a homemaker and mom. After raising their son, Bill and Betty had the opportunity to travel the eleven Western states when Bill worked for the Federal Aviation Agency for almost nine years. He surveyed sites for Vortach Stations and other units for the FAA. During their travels, they stayed in various places mostly sm! all towns near the sites. Some of the places were in very rural country; this included time when they boarded on a ranch in Artesia, NM. When there, the rancher's sons taught Betty how to wrangle young colts. Preceding Betty in death were her parents, brother, Eddie Hoffman; sister, Mildred Luttgen and grandson, Jason Beekman. She is survived by her husband, Bill. Surviving are many family members, all whom she loved and cared for very much. They include son, Russ Beekman (Kathie) of Nevada; grandson, Tom Beekman (Paula) of Texas; granddaughter, Betsy Smith (Kelly) of Nevada; great-granddaughter, Sarah Beekman; great-grandson, Josh Morse (Sarah) both of Texas; great-grandsons, Steven, Matthew and Conner Smith of Nevada; great-granddaughters, Tawney and Ashley Smith both of Nevada; great-great-granddaughter, Sparrow Morse of Texas; nieces, Suzie Potterat (Georges) of CA; Georgette Hoffman (Rick) also of CA. A graveside service will be celebrated on Thursday, May 27th at 10am at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with Floyd Robertson officiating. Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels and Crematory "Trusted care for the ones you love" ~ 575-537-0777. To send condolences, visit www.terrazasfuneralchapel.com.
