Other survivors include one brother, Felipe Garcia Ramirez, twenty-nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-son, Guerrero Lucero, a step-daughter, Martha Elena Lucero and numerous brothers and sisters. A Prayer Vigil was held Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road. He was stunning with his good looks and charming personality. He made friends everywhere he went, and everyone who met him knew he was one of a kind from the start. He lived a fulfilling and adventurous life. He had many accomplishments and fulfilled all his dreams. He was a go getter and made the impossible possible. He graduated from Bonanza High School and attended NMSU with an interest in politics. He was very good with people and could convince anyone to do what he wanted them to. He served in the White House for an internship, started a Big Brother Organization to help young children, loved working with the elderly and spending time with them along with many other things. He wanted to ! make a difference in the world and wanted to help others. He had a very big heart and would do anything to see his loved ones happy. Alberson, 86, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday , February 25th, 2011. David was born on November 7th, 1924 in Mesilla, NM to James F. and Florence Alberson. David graduated from Las Cruces union High School and then proudly served in the US Air Corps. He was a B-17 pilot.but always said the greatest combat he ever saw was in a honky-tonk in Memphis. He married Pauline Daniel in 1946. David graduated from New Mexico State University, (then New Mexico College of A $ M) with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. David and Pauline celebrated 65 years of marriage on January 13, 2011. Pauline preceded him in death just a month ago, and now they are together again. David worked for the U.S Department of Agriculture for many years. Later, he owned and operated a home and apartment maintenance company working for several realtors and many local residents in town. He could build or fix anything and taught his children to do the same. He was a member (sometimes reluctantly) of Hill Baptist Church. David enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and telling stories and jokes. He had a strong work ethic and lived his life with Christian values. David is survived by children; Ed and Talea Alberson, Paul and Betty Alberson, Rick Alberson, Linda and Mark Robertson, Craig and Kathi Alberson, his adopted grandson Joshua Alberson, sister, Irene Swartz, sisters-in-law, Ann Alberson, Corkey Alberson, Jeanne Alberson, Minnie Topliff, brother-in-law, David Daniel and sister-in-law Mary Chitwood, cousin, Jackie Harris, as well as many friends, family, and neighbors. Jerry was born Sept. 8, 1950 in Madison, WI., to Frederick T. and Patricia Jane (Kelly) Downs. His grandfather nicknamed him Jerry in honor of Jerry Downs, a second baseman who played in the 1908 World Series and later for the Chicago Cubs. True to his namesake, Jerry was a lifelong Cubs fan. The family moved to Las Cruces in 1954 when his father took a position with New Mexico State University. After graduating from Las Cruces High in 1968 Jerry joined the U.S. Navy. In the navy he flew on the A-3 Sky Warrior as an electronic warfare and reconnaissance specialist. After the navy, he returned to Las Cruces where he earned a degree in Fine Arts from NMSU. He was an award-winning illustrator and graphic artist for Agricultural Communications. He retired from NMSU in 2008. Jerry had a passion for classical guitar and played professionally for 22 years, first at Meson de Mesilla and later at Picacho Hills Country Club. From high school on he played in several bands with a group of long-time friends. He is survived by his son, William Kelly "Billy" Downs, of Las Cruces. Billy was "the apple of his heart and the joy of his life." He is also survived by his brother Thomas Taylor Downs of Denver, CO, his former wife Vicky Downs of Las Cruces, and his little grey cat, January Downs. Jerry was a creative soul who had an equal talent for friendship. He loved life, cats, music, the Packers and of course, the Cubs. He was especially devoted to Billy, who was at his father's side during the last months of Jerry's struggle with cancer. The family also wishes to thank the legion of friends who surrounded Jerry with love and kindness, including those who took him to breakfast, shared coffee and conversation with him, treated him to movie nights, and joined him on walks along the Rio Grande. A memorial service will be held Sat., March 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Morning Star Methodist Church, 2941 Morning Star Dr., Las Cruces, NM 88011. Wingenroth, 75, of Ephrata, PA entered into eternal rest at Ephrata Community Hospital, on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. She was born in Ephrata, to the late Harvey M. and Dorothy M. (Showers) Ecenrode. She was the devoted wife of Jack L. Wingenroth with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Deloris, known as "Dee" to her many friends and family was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, where she taught Bible Studies and served the Church in many other capacities. She also served as chairperson on two Pastor Search committees. She was employed at Farmer's First Bank/Susquehanna Bank of Ephrata; she retired as Branch Manager after a 30 year career. She enjoyed serving the local community forming many personal and professional friendships. In November of 1982, Dee was sworn in as the first female member of the Ephrata Borough Council, on which she served 8 years. In 1988, Dee stated, "I do hope I've opened the door for other persons who may have felt somewhat intimidated or inadequate to serve on the council. A person shouldn't be afraid that he or she lacks the knowledge (to serve). You learn by participating, knowledge comes." Dee also served as Honorary Chairperson for the 2007 Cocalico/Ephrata Relay for Life, after having survived Ovarian Cancer a year earlier. In 2007 when interviewed by the Ephrata Review Dee stated, "Sometimes we are thrown together without rhyme or reason and we all somehow become friends. Friends who encourage each other and help each other. That is what happened to me when I learned that I had cancer - a new set of friends were made and with the support of each other we made it through the tough times." Dee's passion was people and making new friends. Surviving in addition to her husband, Jack, are their beloved children, Keith L. Wingenroth of Ephrata, Kent L. Wingenroth, husband of Veronica A. of Las Cruces, NM, Karen L. Arbegast, wife of Douglas K. of Langhorne. They were blessed with 6 grandchildren, Matthew Todd, husband of Ligia, Jon Michael, husband of Amy Sue, Amy Marie, Leslie Marie Higgins, wife of Jared Joseph, Michael Joseph, Elizabeth Hannah and 7 great grandchildren. Her siblings include brothers, Ronnie Ecenrode, husband of Barb of Mount Joy, Terry Detweiler of Saylorsburg, Larry Myers, husband of Dottie of Bedminister; sister, Jackie Forry, wife of Charles of NC; step-brother, Barry Ryan, husband of Donna of York; and step-sister, Linda Hopkins of GA. She was preceded in death by sister, Cheryl Saylor. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, March 6, at the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, 201 Crescent Ave., Ephrata, with Pastor Galen Hackman officiating. After a long, disabling illness, Gen has joined her beloved husband, "Zim", in eternal life. Gen was born to Claude Posey & Nellie Pearl Latham Posey on July 29, 1921 and spent her childhood in Mayhill, near Cloudcroft, NM. Gen was one of six children; Gladys Posey Hadley (deceased), Alvin Posey (deceased), Edwin Posey (deceased), Delbert Posey (deceased), and Betty Posey Crockett (Puyallup, Washington). In 1940, Gen married Urban C. Zimmerman and they resided primarily in Las Cruces. Urban preceded Gen in death and passed away February 27, 1996. She is survived by one son, Urban Douglas Zimmerman of Parker, CO. Gen or "Tami", as she is referred to by the grandchildren, is survived by four grandchildren; Melanie Zimmerman Schwaner, Albuquerque, NM, Kevin Zimmerman, Las Cruces, NM, Jason Zimmerman, Laurel, MD and Sarah Zimmerman Voisin, Williamstown, MA, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Gen enjoyed fishing, camping in her RV and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a great storyteller and especially enjoyed reminiscing about exciting adventures from her childhood and camping trips with her beloved "Zim". She attended Church of Christ on Miranda. Please join Gen's family for Graveside services at the Masonic Cemetery in Las Cruces on Saturday, March 5 at 10 am. She was born June 28, 1923 in Mesilla Park, New Mexico, lived in Los Angeles, CA, and moved to Morenci, Arizona in 1948. She lived in Phoenix for the past 30 years after her husband retired from Phelps Dodge in 1981. Angela was the mother of Sarah Alvillar, Lake Forest, CA, Erminda Hicks, Phoenix, AZ, and Dolores Klokinis, Glendale, AZ, and step-mother of Isadore "Scott" Alvillar, Las Vegas, NV. She was the loving grandmother of Angela Ortiz, Robert Ortiz, Jr., Sabrina Carr, Lora Hicks, Christina Taylor, Michelle Turner, Tammy Diaz and Jennifer Alvillar (deceased). She leaves 11 great-grandchildren: Isabella Ortiz, Kashmere, Roisin, and Penelope Carr, Jazmine Klokinis, Jacob, Brandon, and Mason Turner, Jeremy Alvillar, Armando Diaz, Jr., and Eva Ann Diaz. Angela left a wonderful legacy of work as a public servant, having been the Director of the Dislocated Worker Program at the Maricopa Community College Skills Center, and Director of Continuing Education of Greenlee County. She was a talented grant writer who obtained millions of dollars in federal funding with the support of Senator John McCain to assist dislocated workers to transition from lay-off and job loss to living wage earners with new skills and training. Angela was a universal teacher and those who knew her appreciated that she wanted to make people's lives better by finding ways to help them through the educational system. She was a mentor to many young people and she believed that getting a formal education was a necessity; not a luxury. Angela was a leader in the LULAC organization and was honored as their Woman of the Year in 1979. She was a vocal force in the Phelps Dodge Miner's Strike in 1983. As an activist, she met and invited Cesar Chavez to speak with t! he union workers in support of their strike action. In 1994, Angela received an appointment as a member of the Commission on Judicial Performance Review in the Supreme Court of the State of Arizona. She also authored a book of short stories and poetry, "Ayer, Hoy, Despues?" After raising her family, Angela went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master's Degree at the University of Arizona in Vocational Rehabilitation and graduated with highest distinction. She had a a significant influence in every educational endeavor she entered. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy as a stalwart educational advocate will live on forever in the lives of the people she touched. Lunsford, age 87, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Jesse was born September 4, 1923 in Ninnekah, Oklahoma. His parents were James Burl and Nettie Lou Cox Lunsford. He was the fifth child in a family of eight sons and one daughter. He moved with his family to La Huerta (near Carlsbad), New Mexico a few months after birth where his parents and numerous other aunts and uncles established farming operations. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1941 and attended New Mexico State University. However, after the outbreak of World War II, he left college and volunteered for duty in the United States Army. He served in combat in Europe after D Day until October 12, 1944 when he suffered a serious wound near Aachen, Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart and a number of medals for valor in combat. Jesse married Winnie Florene Jones in Roswell, New Mexico on January 31, 1945. After recuperating from his war wound and discharge from the Army, Jesse had a career with the County Health Departments in Carlsbad, New Mexico and Santa Ana, California. He returned to college at the University of New Mexico in the summer of 1950 and graduated with his Bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1953. He also received a Master's degree in civil engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1954 and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1964. Jesse began his professional career as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Washington State University for three years beginning in 1954, taught for one year at Rennsselaer Polytechnic Institute in Tr! oy, New York in 1957-1958 and settled in as a Professor of Civil Engineering at New Mexico State University at Las Cruces, New Mexico beginning in 1958. Jesse was to spend the rest of his teaching career at New Mexico State University, retiring in 1985 as a full professor. As a college professor, Jesse's primary concern was the welfare of his students and was affectionately known by his students for his guidance as a counselor and for his teaching skills as a professor. He received a number of teaching awards, including the Bromilow Award as the best engineering professor at New Mexico State University in 1980. After retirement from NMSU, Jesse spent many happy years as a consulting engineer. In 2005, a number of former colleagues in the Civil Engineering Department, former students, and his family, established the Jesse V. Lunsford Endowed Scholarship, which awards scholarships to undergraduate civil engineering students at New Mexico State University. In addition to being very active professionally, Jesse was a devout member of Panlener Church of Christ in Las Cruces, New Mexico since 1964, where he faithfully served in ma! ny capacities, including Sunday school teacher, song leader, deacon and elder. Jesse and his first wife, Winnie, had six children, Faye Lunsford Hill, Wayne O. Lunsford (Linda), Richard V. Lunsford, Douglas L. Lunsford (Wendy), Stephen L. Lunsford (Mary) and Cynthia Lunsford Porter (John). Jesse married Gladys Nichols on July 13, 1974 and remained married to her until her untimely death on November 14, 2000. Gladys had four children, Terry L. Nichols (Martha), Mike K. Nichols, Donna Nichols Blackman (Kevin) and Theressa Nichols Demers from her first marriage. Jesse always treated Gladys' children as his own and considered his children and her children as one large family. Jesse is survived by his 10 children, 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard A. Lunsford (Dolores) of Phoenix, Arizona , and Lee R. Lunsford (Golda) of Albuquerque , New Mexico and his sister, Mary L. Alexander of El Paso , Texas . He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews and their children, who are too numerous to cou! nt, and his many, many friends. Jesse's greatest loves were his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and close relatives, his church family and all of the students he taught and the people he worked with during his professional career as a Professor of Civil Engineering at NMSU. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 9:00 A.M. at Panlener Church of Christ, 1325 Panlener Avenue, Las Cruces , New Mexico . Rev. Ron Herring, Pastor of the Church will officiate. Grave side services with military honors will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Fairacres , New Mexico . Yssella was born on May 11th, 1979, to Maria Elena Rodriguez and Lionel Medrano in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Yssella graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1997 and became a Crimson Scholar at New Mexico State University. She gave birth to a son, Brian Brannan Jr., in 2001 who was born prematurely. Due to the experience, she devoted her life to the medical field helping others as they had helped her son. Over the past 8 years, Yssella lived with her husband, and son in the San Francisco Bay area. For four years, she worked as an orthopedic surgeon's assistant in San Mateo, California. Yssella was married to the love of her life, Brian Brannan and attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pacifica, California. Above all her accomplishments, her greatest was being a mother; she was a devoted wife and mother. She inspired those who loved her most. With her signature long hair and long eye lashes, she was beautiful inside and out. She is survived by her husband, Brian Brannan, son, Brian Brannan Jr., step-daughter, Celeste Brannan, mother, Maria Elena Rodriguez Medrano, father, Lionel Medrano, sisters; Melissa Medrano, and Marci Medrano, brother, Leo Medrano, all of Las Cruces. He was born August 15, 1952 to Roman and Aurora Bombach and grew up in Mesilla, NM. Pat was a devoted 29 year member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 412 of New Mexico and Local 26 of Western Washington. He spent the final years of his life in Everett, WA where he was closer to his sons and grandchildren. Pat proudly supported his grandchildren's passions and spent many hours cheering at athletic events, sharing his love of gardening and amassing a collection of treasures that chronicled their accomplishments. He had an avid interest in the Bombach family history and often shared with his children and grandchildren family stories, traditions, and mementos. Pat is survived by children, Yvonne, Michael and wife RusAne, and Jaime; his grandchildren, Meagan, Kaitlyn, Jaime, Gabriella, AJ and Jacob; his siblings, Dolores Snow, Richard Bombach, Marion Barboa and Peggy Warren; and his beloved dog, Nemo.
