He was born June 22, 1961 in El Paso, Texas to Manuel and Esther Rosas Ovalle. "Alex" as he was fondly known to his family and friends, was a welder and pipe fitter by trade, and of great service to many. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife, Leah "Sweetie Pie" Ovalle of the family home; his parents Manuel Sr. and Esther R. Ovalle of El Paso, Texas; a brother, Manuel Ovalle Jr. and wife, Diana and their son Manuel A. Ovalle III; a sister, Elizabeth O. Veck and her husband Mike and their son, Vicente Veck all of El Paso, Texas. Other survivors include numerous aunts, uncles, loving friends in Las Cruces and El Paso, Texas area as well as his loving pets, Rio, Tyrah, Twinkie and Ralph. Visitation for Alex will begin at 11 AM Friday, May 14, 2010 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Funeral Service is scheduled to begin at 2 PM with Deacon, Larry Brown officiating. Concluding Service and Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. BARRAZA, 82, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Monday, May 10, 2010 at La Posada - Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born August 17, 1927 in Miami, Arizona to Simon and Jesusita Garcia Barraza. Mr. Barraza retired as a brick layer and was a member of International Brick Layers Union and Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. Survivors include his wife, Amelia Flores; two sons, Julian Barraza and wife, Lucy and Ruben Barraza all of Las Cruces; five daughters, Jessica Barraza and Merced Shaw of Las Cruces, Raquel Aguirre and husband, Eloy of Washington, Irma Mullin of New Jersey and Marie Miranda of Rio Rancho. Other survivors include one sister, Delia Navarro of Las Cruces, fifteen grandchildren, Rudy S., Lei Loni, Sandra and Melissa Miranda, Elias, Heather, Felicia and Simon Barraza, August Aguirre, Robert Dominguez, Russell, Joshua and Gabriela Shaw, Eddie Garrison and Rosa Amelia Barraza as well as eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Delfina Campoya. Visitation for Mr. Barraza will begin at 6 PM, Friday, May 14, 2010 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Jerry was surrounded by family, friends, devoted caregivers and Hospice Staff. Jerry is survived by wife, Lisa Chilton Wood; son, Jamie Wood of Deming, NM; daughter, Shea Stanek and husband, Karl and grandsons, Skyler (18), Cody (15) Adrian (11) of Chandler, AZ; David Chilton and wife Kristi and grandchildren, Hailey (13), Annelise (3) and Devin (2 months) of Durham, NC; daughter, Gina Whitlow and fiancée, Joe Morrell and grandson, Travis Spurgeon (20) of Oregon City, OR; sister, Kay Snow of Wichita,Kansas; and brother, Joe Wood and wife, Judy of South River, NJ. Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Jeff who died at age nine; father, W.A. "Snort" Wood; and mother, Betty Mae Craig Wood. Jerry leaves behind countless nieces and nephews from the Craig and Wood families, as well as brothers and sisters-in law of the Chilton family, and numerous cousins of the Chilton/Chavez/Triviz families. In 1999 Jerry and Lisa relocated to Santa Fe when Jerry became an electrical and plumbing contractor and established his business, House to House Installation and Repair. Lisa took a job at the Attorney General's Office where she continues to work today. Jerry's service to his clients and all he knew went far beyond their expectations, so he was never short of those requesting his services. Jerry was born on the 4th of July, 1943 in Deming, N.M. where he grew up, married and raised two children. In the 1970s and 1980s he worked primarily at Chino Copper mines in Bayard, NM, then in the wind mill business with his former father-in-law, Dan Lucas. In 1991 Jerry married Lisa Chilton and re-located to Las Cruces where he worked for Sara Lee L'eggs Hosiery plant until moving to Santa Fe in 1999. The family moved to Las Cruces in 1922. Verva attended school in Las Cruces. For many years she worked as a bookkeeper and was active in the Arts and Crafts community. She was a long time member of the Rebekah Assembly of New Mexico. Verva is survived by one sister, Betty Jo Sayler of Grants Pass, Oregan, two sons Johh (Karen) of Las Cruces and Carroll Reed (Linda) of Roswell, NM, as well as many grandchildren, relatives, and friends. "Mintz," as he was known to all, was born to Juanita and James Mintz Sr. in Orangeburg, S.C. on October 17, 1929. Mintz was retired from the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably as a Staff Sgt., during the Korean Conflict and was a veteran of Foreign Wars. While in the service of his country he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Service Medals and four Good Conduct Medals. He was also retired from the Las Cruces Public Schools after 23 years of faithful service. Mintz was an active and dedicated member of the Bethel Second Baptist Church for more than a decade. He enjoyed being of service to God and his community and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Rosie Mintz of the family home; son Ralph Mintz and wife Michelle of Las Cruces; daughters Debbie Mintz-Ortiz and husband Tim of Las Cruces, Gwen Mintz of Nashville, TN, Gail Mintz of Las Cruces and Tracy Rivera and husband Miguel of Puerto Rico; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother David Mintz of Brooklyn, N.Y; sisters Jeanette Mintz and Virginia Zimmerman, as well a multitude of loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Roy Mintz; brothers Virgil Davis, James Davis, A.B. Davis, Willie Mintz and Eugene Mintz; sisters Betty Jean Taylor, Julia Mae Colter and Gloria Mintz; mother-in-law Rosie Brooks and brother-in-law Elvin Wilson. Fay was born on the family farm in Berino, New Mexico November 13, 1919 to Frank Bowman, Sr. and Lena Baker Bowman. The day she was born her father began to call her "Kid", the name which followed her the rest of her life. Fay grew up helping her family work the farm and attended New Mexico State College, now New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. She was married to Hugh C. Whitfield on March 12, 1943. Shortly thereafter they moved to Stillwater, OK where Hugh served as a pilot instructor with the Army Air Corps. Upon completion of his tour of duty, they moved to Las Cruces where the family business was started in 1932 as a small bus and trucking company. Mr. Whitfield, his brother Ed and their parents operated Whitfield Transportation throughout Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Arizona. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter Susan. Fay devoted he! r life to caring for her family. She spent the recent past doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fay is survived by her sister Edra R. Edmonds; her daughter Susan Drewry; granddaughter Michelle Lowery and husband Ace, great granddaughter Addison Lowery and great grandson Ryder Lowery; grandson Ryan Drewry; sister-in law Joyce Whifield Jaynes; and numerous nieces and nephews. Fay was preceded in death by her parents as well as siblings Frank D. Bowman, Charles Bowman, Bob Bowman, her husband Hugh Whitfield and her son-in-law Dann Drewry. A visitation will be held Tuesday May 11, 2010 from 5-7 PM at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Rev. In 1972, he married Marilyn Jones. Most of his adult working years were spent in developing sales routes, selling products for Bowes Seal-Fast Corporation of Indiana and, lately, for Warsaw Chemical Company, also of Indiana. He loved being self-employed and enjoyed the many friends he made along the way. He was a member of the Panlener Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Mayben of Las Cruces; two sons, Jeff Mayben of Neosho, MO and Eric Mayben of Eagle Pass, TX; daughter-in-law, Melinda Mayben of Neosho, MO and three very special grandchildren, Madalyn Garren, Trenton Mayben and Olivia Garren of Neosho, MO; brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Denise Hall-Wright of The Colony, TX; father and mother-in-law, J.C. and Lois Jones of Las Cruces; 2 nieces and 3 nephews, plus great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins in various places.
