Author: marcenath Surnames: Hawkins, Tarasoff Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newmexico.counties.donaana/4436/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Las Cruces Sun News 23 June 2010 Bryan Kenneth Hawkins 1929 - 2010 On June 19, 2010 God called Bryan Kenneth Hawkins home where he will reside in complete health and in the farmhouse God has prepared for him. Bryan was born January 22, 1929 in Brazito, NM. His parents, William and Mildred Hawkins came to the Mesilla Valley in 1928 From Ozark, AK. They had three sons, Bryan, Jerry and Charlie. The family farmed through the depression with help from relatives who came for the much needed work during that era. During his college years Bryan was involved in a life altering car accident that hospitalized him for almost a year, and affected him through out his life. In spite of this tragic event and with the help of his mother who drove him to NMSU daily so that he could attend classes, Bryan obtained his Bachelors degree, and became a RPA. Upon graduation he worked for Frank Adams and soon after opened his own accounting business in 1958. Some of Bryan's most memorable career accomplishments were being a project accountant for the Apollo project for NASA, and working as an accountant for Weyerhaeuser Inc., where through his due diligence he recovered over a hundred thousand dollars for the company. During that time, Bryan continued to assist his father William "Pop" Hawkins on the farm and eventually took over the day to day operations of the Brazito farm. After a successful work history Bryan retired in the mid nineties and lived the rest of his life on his beloved farm in Brazito, where he enjoyed feeding the birds and watching the trees he planted grow. In addition to being a loving husband and father, Bryan's second love was a good cigar. On any given day you could find Bryan, one of his many "bonnets" donning his head, puttering around his yard with that tell-tale trail of smoke coming from his stogie. Bryan was proud of his children's accomplishments and his dedication to all of them is reflected by the love and commitment his children showed him during his final days. Bryan's life history will show him to having been a man of dedication to family, hard work, and honesty. Bryan was preceded in death by his parents William and Mildred, and his brother Charlie. Bryan is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jane, sons Steven Webb and his wife Angela (Angie) and their children, and Dr. Jamie and his wife Yolanda Hawkins and his daughter, and his daughter Lenora Hawkins. He is also survived by his children Tom Tarasoff and his wife Bernadine and their children, Mike Tarasoff and his companion Pam and their children, and Karen Tarasoff Foust and her husband Mike; his brother Jerry Hawkins and his wife Shirley, and their children Ben, Bill, Bob, and Linda Hawkins and his deceased brother Charlie's children, Christine, Mark, Kelly and Stacey, as well as numerous grand children and great-grand children. Bryan Hawkins will be missed by all that were fortunate enough to have made his acquaintance. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers Bryan's family ask that donations be made in his name to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Author: marcenath Surnames: Phillips, Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newmexico.counties.donaana/4421/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Las Cruces Sun News 19 June 2010 Linda Jeane Phillips recently completed the journey of her very good life on Sunday, June 13, 2010. Born November 14, 1946 in Las Cruces, NM, Linda spent her life exploring the world, celebrating joy in her life, making good friends and serving others. After graduating from the University of New Mexico in 1970, Linda embarked on a career educating this country's children, serving as an elementary teacher for Santa Fe Public Schools for eight years, Department of Defense schools for nine years in Berlin, Germany and as a second grade teacher for fifteen years with the Truth or Consequences Municipal School District. Her former second graders were delighted by Ms. Phillips' visit on their graduation day, when she would bring photographs and samples of their work from ten years before. While in Germany, Linda participated heavily in Theatre, working as a make-up artist and actress. Her singing ability helped her land a lead role in a production of Chicago. Her travels in Europe, Asia and the Middle East helped develop in Linda a sense of celebration, vigor and understanding of the interconnectedness of the world's cultures. In her later years, Linda used her gifts to care for her elderly mother, enjoy time with her friends, work with the local Theatre organization and volunteer at the Elementary School's library - ensuring student access to books when the librarian was at another school. Linda also loved to swim. Her work was fundamental in the on-going efforts to get the community pool covered. Linda loved to sing, enjoyed art, good food and spirits and cultivating her lush gardens. Her soft spirit and gracious gift of listening were steady forces in the lives of her friends. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Henry and Bertha L. Phillips. She is survived by her sister, Kathy Phillips; members of the Mays family from her mother's side; and members of the Powell family from her father's side of her family. Also surviving Linda are her life long friends, Julie Keene, Jennette Hanson and Syd Suttman, Jose Mesa and Heinz Weber and Julie Harris. Linda's love of life and kindness will also be missed by a host of other friends, her students and her community. Cremation will take place and a Memorial Celebration Service will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Kirikos Family Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Bill Kohler officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Linda Phillips to the TorC Community Theatre, 311 N. Foch St., T or C, NM 87901. Arrangements are by Kirikos Family Funeral Home, Inc. & Sierra Crematory, LLC, 303 N. Cedar St., TorC. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
