When he was a boy the family moved to El Paso, Texas, then San Miguel, New Mexico where his father farmed. He graduated from Valley High School in Anthony, New Mexico in 1935. Marcus, also known as Mark or Markie intermingled farming and law enforcement work for 14 years in New Mexico and Texas. He was constable in San Miguel for four years, a guard at the La Tuna Federal Prison, deputy sheriff, and motorcycle highway patrolman. In 1951 he moved his family to Elfrida, Arizona where he farmed until 1959 when he began driving truck in the Phelps Dodge open pit mine in Bisbee. After the pit closed in 1974 he drove truck for CTI and retired in 1980. He had several awards as a professional driver with no moving citations. Marcus died June 16, 2010 at the Copper Queen Hospital after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ethel; his sons, Mike and Pat; and his siblings, Ivan, Andrew, Leota, and Ethel Christine. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Phil and Audine Dieter of Vancouver, Washington, Arnold and Christine Menke of Bisbee, two daughters-in-law, Barbara Higgins of Prescott, Arizona, and Judi Phipps of Otis, Oregon, twelve grandchildren, Lynn, Jamie, Michelle, Lyndon, Jackie, Andy, Robert, Jon, Robin, Garry, Catherine, and Angela, thirty two great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren, many other relatives, neighbors, and friends. Two memorial services will be held. The first will be Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the Bisbee SDA church on Naco Highway. The second will be graveside in Mesquite, New Mexico at the Missionary Ridge Cemetery at 2 p.m. where he will be buried beside his wife, Ethel. He was born February 25, 1930 in Lakeside, AZ to Enrique and Eva Avalos. A loving husband, great father, grandfather and long time friend to all those that knew him. Henry is now resting in peace. Henry was retired from Weber Aircraft, in Burbank CA in 1980, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic. During that time he was part of the team that built the first ejection seat for the space shuttle Apollo that is now at a space museum in Cape Kennedy, Florida. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years Genevieve Avalos of the family home; five sons, Michael of San Fernando, CA, John and wife Anna of Las Cruces, Tim of Sylmar, CA, Joseph and partner Dr. David Luna of Los Angeles, CA, and Nicholas and wife Elvira of Temecula, CA; five daughters, Nancy and husband Ignacio Zendejas of Lake Hughes, CA, Linda Avalos of Palm Springs, CA, Theresa and husband Armando Rogero of Palmdale, CA, Kathy and husband John Trujillo and Stephanie Avalos and companion Richard Poling all of Las Cruces. Other survivors include twenty six grandchildren and one on the way, thirty two great-grandchildren and two on the way, as well as two brothers, Ned Avalos and Eloy Avalos. Willy was born on August 17, 1931 in Renaix, Belgium to George Cyril Vandenabeele and Marie Jean Van Coppenholle. He is survived by his wife Catherine Redd Abeele of Las Cruces, NM a brother Raoul Vandenabeele and two nieces, Myriam and Danielle Vandenabeele all of Belgium. He earned a BS in Engineering in Belgium, a Masters Degree at the University of Tennessee and Ph.D.'s in Meteorology and Soil Science from Utah State University. He worked for Owens-Corning Fiberglass where he met and married Catherine Redd in 1966. After receiving his degrees he taught at Salisbury State College. Later he taught at California State University in Sacramento. He worked at NASA in Houston, at White Sands Missile Range, Los Alamos National Laboratory and while at Los Alamos he also taught at the University of New Mexico Branch and Northern New Mexico Community College. He retired from the State of New Mexico. The Abeeles' traveled widely. Even before they met, Willy was a traveler, traversing South America and even crossing the Sahara Desert on a camel, a mistake but an adventure nonetheless. Willy was an avid athlete, petanque player, lover of languages, books, and life. Willy has left his abundant and loyal friends a host of wonderful memories. Following his wishes, he will be cremated. She was born September 02, 1920 in Kingston, Arkansas to William and Chloe White. She was married at seventeen, to the love of her life, Edward Berridge, in Cooperton, Ok. They moved to Pecos, Texas for a few years where Ed worked at a cotton gin. Grace and Ed made their final move to Garfield, NM in 1944 and started their dream of farming. She loved nothing more than cooking for her family and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed being outdoors and she loved life on the farm. She and Ed were longtime farmers in Garfield and members of the Salem Baptist Church. Grace started working in the late 1960's as a bookkeeper at the Brewster Agency in Garfield and remained there for many years. Three children, Jerry Berridge and wife Tresa of Silver City, NM, Helen Berridge of Las Cruces and Robert Berridge and wife Judy of Garfield, NM survive Grace. Her greatest joys in life were her eight grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Dabaw". Her husband of 62 years, Edward Berridge, granddaughter-in-law, Heidi Welch and two great-grandsons, Nicholas Welch and Corey Asel, preceded Grace in death. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the Pavilion in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Hatch, NM. Officiating will be the Rev. Jim Woods of the Church of God in Hatch and the Rev. Josh Hunt, of Salem Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mom and Dad's assisted Living, P.O. Kennedy, 83, of Radium Springs, N.M., passed away at home surrounded by his wife Bonnie and loving members of his family on the evening of May 15, 2010. A memorial service will be held on June 26, 2010 at 2 p.m. The service will take place at the family residence in Radium Springs, N.M. Glenn was previously a longtime resident of Pagosa Springs, CO. He left Pagosa Springs in 1996 and moved to Radium Springs where he developed an RV Park on the Rio Grande. Glenn and his wife Bonnie have operated the Rio Grande River Resort RV Park (formerly the Lakewood Park) for the last fifteen years. In spite of being "83 years young", Glenn was always busy doing chores around the park such as trimming tree branches with a chain saw, irrigating, running the tractor to maintain the grounds, not to mention maintaining and repairing the various RV sites. Glenn is survived by his loving wife Bonnie of 62 years, who still resides in Radium Springs, N.M. Other family members include his son, Dr. Ed Kennedy and his wife Nancy of Radium Springs, N.M.; son, Sean and his wife Betsy of Houston, TX; daughter, Emily and great grandson Toby of Radium Springs; son, John of Pagosa Springs, CO with grand daughter Shannon of Sedona, AZ and grandson Ryan of Portland, OR; daughter, Roberta Miller and husband Dick of Pagosa Springs with grand daughter Kimberly of New York, NY; sister, Peggy Rodda of Abilene, KS; and numerous nieces' and nephews'. In honor of Bonnie's successful battle with Pancreatic Cancer this last year, the family asks that donations be made in memoriam to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) in honor of Glenn Kennedy's name for his diligent care and love for his wife during this difficult time. View Cemetery. Bill was born April 29, 1929 in LaMesa, New Mexico to James A. and Dorothy L. Sloan. He graduated from Valley High School where he was a member of the FFA and received a State Farmer Achievement Award. He attended Western New Mexico University and New Mexico State University, and then served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division for 3 years during the Korean War. He then received his associate degree in electrical engineering. He was the manager of the Sears Catalog Store in Las Cruces where he met his wife, Anna T. Orsak. They were married on April 04, 1956. He went to work for Public Service Company of New Mexico in Deming and was transferred to Santa Fe in 1962. He retired from Public Service Company as the manager of the Sangre de Cristo Water Department in 1986. Bill and Anna retired to Deming in 1992. Bill was very active in the community. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and served as Exalted Ruler in Santa Fe. He was president of the Santa Fe Builders and Contractors Association, a member of the Sertoma Club, member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, member/treasurer of the Luna County Historical Society, and an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Bill was a wonderful, caring man who was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anna, and his two daughters, Mary Sloan of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Bridget Sloan of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by his brothers, Mack (Willy) Sloan of Belton, Texas; Mike (Peggy) Sloan of Huntington Beach, California; Frank (Bonnie) Sloan of La Mesa, New Mexico; a sister Jean Clayshulte of Mesilla, New Mexico and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mike Sloan, Frank Sloan, John K. Clayshulte Jr., Nelson Clayshulte, Marshal Clayshulte and Bob Sloan. She passed away Saturday with loved ones holding her hand. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, and person. But what she was most proud of was being a wonderful mother, and grandmother. She was loved by so many and will be forgotten by none. She is at peace and can finally rest. No more pain, no more surgeries, no more tears. She lived for making other people happy. Whether by making them cross stitch or by baking them one of her delicious treats or just being there for them. Her joy came from helping others. Now we must in turn be there to help each other. His greatest joys were his wife and family, his many friends, lots of classical music, camping, and at least one pun a day. He was born in Austin , Texas , November 22, 1927 to Gladys Delilah ( Dawson ) and Othniel Robert Chambers I. Niel grew up in Corvallis , Oregon , entering first grade at age 3 as part of a special program established for children of Oregon State College professors. Early on, Niel held numerous jobs, including being a fire lookout for 5 summers in the Cascade forest. He served in the military at the end of WW II in 1946 in the occupation of Vienna and in the Korean War. He earned a BA in Sociology in 1956 at the University of Oregon , an MS in Sociology in 1963 and a second MS in Counseling in 1968. Soon after his marriage to Ardith Jamie Jones in 1955, he began his career in the Department of Corrections, then settled in Keizer , Oregon and they raised four children. Niel retired in 1987 as Executive Assistant to the Oregon State Director of Corrections, and also served as the Corrections Division lobbyist to the Oregon State legislature. In the year before retirement he and Ardith visited Munich and Vienna . After retirement, they sold their Keizer home, bought a great pickup and a 29 ft fifth-wheel trailer and toured the US, mainly below the Mason-Dixon Line, for 2 œ years. They settled in Las Cruces , New Mexico in 1991, when they joined the Unitarian Universalist Church at 2000 South Solano Ave. Niel is survived by Ardith, his wife of 55 years, children Kathryn (Kadri Ozyurt), Kalyani (Stephen Davison), Kerry (Jill Morgenthaler), Karlin (Vickie Rogers); grandchildren Onur Ozyurt, Atilla Ozyurt, Jesse Davison, Kirby Davison (Lauren), Tyler Davison (Amy), Megan Davison, Neal Chambers, Jamie Chambers, Joleen Braasch; and great-grandchildren Joey Elston and Emily Davison. The Reverend Nancy Anderson will lead the memorial service on June 30 at the Good Samaritan Retirement Village, with a reception to follow. Niel's wish was to be cremated, as were his father and mother, and his ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kids Don't Smoke National Campaign or to the Las Cruces Unitarian Universalist Church. Niel's final care is entrusted to the La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home. June was a compassionate and courageous woman, and she never stopped fighting. She was born in Cheyenne, WY in 1924 to Wellington Claude and Marie Louise Stein, and graduated high school in 1942. Five years later she completed the Colorado Training School for Nurses in Denver and became a Registered Nurse. In 1949 she married Melvin W. McGuire in Fort Collins, CO after the two met in Southern California - a marriage that lasted till Melvin's death in 1998. The couple had two children, Patrick and Donna. After living in Santa Fe, NM, the McGuire's moved to Las Cruces in 1963. June and Melvin became real estate brokers, and bought into Melvin's family business, the McGuire Agency. The two continued to operate the business until 1998. June was active in the Women's Council of Realtors, having held many offices including Governor of WCR for New Mexico. In 1978 she was named Realtor of the Year by the Las Cruces Board of Realtors, now the Las Cruces Association of Realtors. She was also named president of the board in 1981. But in many ways, June never retired from her role as a nurse, always taking care of family and friends through her life. She was determined and a hard worker, and continued to work as a real estate agent into her early 80s. June had a passion for current events, playing Bridge, and for her family. She had a zeal for life and made each day count. June is survived by her son Patrick and his wife Sylvia; grandchildren Ginger, Shannon and Micah, along with his wife Alex; great grandchildren Nayeli and Isla; and family friends Joni Short, Donna Salter, Bobby and Barbara Ramirez, among many others. She was predeceased by both parents and parents in-law, brothers Johnny and Walter, sister Betty Lassiter and daughter Donna, as well as her husband Melvin. The memorial service will be at First Evangelical Free Church, 1435 S. Pecos, Tue. June 29 at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Powell. Arrangements are with La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home. Lawrence M. Evaro, 47 passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010 in Moab, Utah while rafting on the Colorado River with the Boy Scouts. Lawrence, the only son was born to Estella and Manuel Evaro on November 19, 1962 in Las Cruces, NM. A graduate of Mayfield High School in 1980, Lawrence attended Texas Tech before joining the US Air Force in 1981, where he served his country for fifteen years. Upon leaving the Air Force, Lawrence began his civilian career as a Radar Program Manager with 84 RADES at Hill AFB, Utah. Lawrence married Consuelo Martinez on May 25, 1993 in Farmington, Utah; they had just celebrated their 17th anniversary. Lawrence was an avid sportsman; he loved coaching the Clearfield City Youth in football, basketball, baseball, and being involved with his son in the Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts. Golfing and being a die-hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers were his true passions. He leaves behind, his wife Consuelo, son Alejandro (Alex), parents Estella and Manuel Evaro; older sister, Sylvia Orme; baby sister Leticia Evaro; nephews, John Derek and Zachary Soto, Mark McKee and Benjamin Martinez; nieces, Teresa Martinez, Adrienne and Jessica McKee; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the American Legion, and Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Club. Lawrence was laid to rest at Lindquist's Memorial Park, Layton Utah under the Wasach Mountains. His big heart, booming voice, infectious laugh and beautiful smile will forever be remembered.
