He was born January 25, 1932 in Rodey to Hilario Molina and Erminia Serna. Mr. Serna served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from the Department of Defense as an Army Material Test and Evaluation Directorate after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 12008, DAV Chapter 38, the American Legion 0042 and the Moose Lodge. Survivors include a son, Adolfo Serna III and wife Josie of Hatch; two grandchildren, Rachelle Marie Serna of Dallas, Texas, Adolfo Saul Serna of Hatch; his companion, Frances Oliver of Garfield. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for Mr. Serna will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010 in Our Lord of Mercy Catholic Church, 102 Hartman in Hatch where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the funeral mass at 10 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2010 in the same church with Reverend Carlos Espinoza officiating. Military honors accorded by a Fort Bliss Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League - El Perro Diablo will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. He was taken from us too soon, but his life will be celebrated as one lived with honor, courage and love. Born in 1953 in El Paso, Texas, he was preceded in death by his parents Angela G. Rodriguez and Refugio "Cuco" Rodriguez. Ed is survived by two siblings, Martha Ann and Paul Charles Rodriguez, and an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, who loved him dearly. After graduating from Mayfield High School in 1971, he attended New Mexico State University where he received his BS in Police Science. Upon graduation in 1976, Ed began his long career with the United States Government, serving a total of 25 years. In 1976, he joined the United States Coast Guard, serving in Long Beach, California, where he earned the rank of Lieutenant (LTJG). After being honorably discharged from the Coast Guard, in 1988 he became a Border Patrol Agent for the San Diego Sector in Campo, California. Ed continued his service to this country when he began employment as a Customs Inspector with the United States Customs Service, where he worked for 15 years. In 2003, when the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was created, Ed became a Customs and Border Protection Officer, a position he held until his death. In his 30's, Ed was an avid Skier and instructor at Sierra Blanca, N.M., where he taught several cousins the joy of skiing. Ed was joined in the after! life by his beloved dog Nicky just days after his own death. May they find peace and walk through the gates of heaven together. Vigil Service will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 10:45 a.m. with a mass of Christian. Beloved wife of Joseph Rodrigues Sapena, loving mother to Elihu Carranza, Jr., Judy Dunfield, Rebecca Carranza, Andrew Carranza and Nancy Jewett. Grandmother to Mathew, Julie Ann, Joel, Henry, Robert, and David. Great-grandmother to Pia, Darin, Michael and Jessica. Andrew her son and Mathew her grandson preceded her in death. Dora was blessed to have seven sisters, Gloria Perez, Viola Arzaga, Beatrice Villarreal, Martha Beardsley, Lydia Ekendahl, Maxine Long, Irene Alvarado and a brother David Armijo. Viola preceded Dora in death and Gloria passed away five days after Dora. Dora also leaves a daughter-in-law Susan Carranza, two son-in-laws Jeff Jewett and Jake Lyhne; Mel Dunfield remained a very close friend to the family. Dora had many nieces and nephews. Dora was born and raised in Mesquite, New Mexico where she has many relatives she visited often. She left New Mexico when she was in high school and came to San Jose. She attended Lincoln High School and graduated. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends. She loved being with her family and with all of her sisters, and Brother David. Dora was gifted, she was an artist. She loved to paint, crochet and knit. Dora enjoyed being a business woman. She and her husband Joe started with a unit and ended with four Taco Bell restaurants. She was a strong advocate against family violence. She was a member of Soroptimist International for thirty-five years. She was also District Director for the Sierra Pacific Region and she was so successful that many wanted her to run for the top position - Area Governor. However, after her son Andrew's death, she slowed her activities She was a member of Grace Baptist Church for many years. There will be "Celebration of Her Life," at Grace Baptist Church located at 484 E. San Fernando Street, San Jose, Ca. 95112 on September 25, 2010 at 10 a.m. Friends and relatives are invited to come to a reception at Mariani's Restaurant & Inn located at 2500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, Ca - following the Church Service. Duran, 64, of Las Cruces passed away August 29, 2010 after a struggle with cancer. He was born on May 14, 1946 to Robert and Mary Duran of Hatch New Mexico. He is survived by his two sons Albert Duran and James Duran. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sara Duran. He worked for the United States government for more than 30 years. His 30 years of government work included his military service, working in White Sands and other military installations around the world. He was the administrator for the Child Care center in White Sands, the Army Community Service (WSMR), and the superintendent of Child Care centers for the United States Army in Europe for the 21st Support Command based in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Albert was a combat veteran from the Vietnam War and received many awards for valor such as the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with bronze stars, FMF combat Insignia and Purple Heart. However, his greatest achievement was being a loving father. He was a soccer coach in Las Cruces for ten years. He coached the teams for his two sons, and when they had moved up to play in higher leagues, he never missed a game. He extended his kindness and knowledge to many of the youth around the Las Cruces area who played soccer. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held for Albert Duran at 12 noon on Saturday, September 18, 2010. It will be at St. Genevieve's Church, 100 South Espina. Arrangements are with La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home.
