She was an artist and had exhibited her work in El Paso and Roswell as well as other cities around the Southwest. Some of her paintings are in Collections in Idaho, Montana, California, Texas, New Mexico and Washington, D.C. She had lived in Las Cruces since 1974, when she moved here from Roswell, and she was a member of University Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 today at Getz Funeral Home. Graveside services Tuesday at Masonic Cemetery with John Justin officiating. She is survived by her husband, George; two sons, Scott of Las Cruces, and Alan of El Paso; a daughter, Sandra Haya of Alamogordo; a brother, Ton Hoover of Roswell; a sister, Nita Wilson of Roswell; and Three grandchildren. Villegas, age 73, of Las Cruces went home to be with his heavenly Father on Monday, October 25, 2010 with his son, Jessie and daughter-in-law, Jackie at his side. He was born August 24, 1937 in Apache, Arizona to Juan and Maria de Jesus "Jesusita" Montes Villegas. Joe was a carpenter by trade and a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a foster parent to many children who did not have a safe place to stay. Joe loved to spend the day with his son and best friend, Jessie who together would make a stop at IHOP for pancakes. Joe was a fixer-upper, he could fix anything that was broken, always putting family and others needs before his own. He touched many lives with his kindness and great sense of humor, and his way with words. Joe loved being at home with his grandchildren, enjoyed the outdoors and would hate to see weeds growing in the yard. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. Those left to mourn his passing include his sister, Jovita Flores and his brother, Rudy Villegas; son, John Jessie and wife Jackie Villegas and their children, Frances Eve Mary and Enrique Joe Villegas and Justin Gibson, his other children John John Galindo, Jessie John Villegas and companion, Cathy Rosales and their son, Jaden, and his other children, Jessie Jr. and Isaiah Villegas, Johnny Ray Garcia and his children, Ayanna, Ajannette Garcia, Jessica Villegas Mata and her husband Chris Mata and their children, Anthony, Mariah, Marisa, Makayla Mata, Minerva Villegas Lewis and husband Gabriel Lewis and their children Cynthia Villegas, Lavina Villegas Lewis, Rusty and Dusty Thomas Villegas, Dakota Montoya Villegas, Naveen L. Smith died peacefully on October 31, 2010 at home in the company of his wife, son, and daughter-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents; Ted and Orene Smith, brothers Wendell and Terry, a son David Lee, a daughter Davorie, and son-in law Dennis. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marge Smith; siblings: Bob and Eva Smith and family; Bobbie Smith and family; Nedra and Joe Hobbs and family; three children: Alvin, Daveen, and Joe D. and their spouses; eleven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. David medically retired from the Santa Fe Railroad in 1955 after 23 years. He had been moved by the railroad to Rincon, NM many times. Marge and he fell in love with the Hatch valley area and the wonderful people. David and Marge bought the ugly little farm on Rincon Road in 1979 on their 10th anniversary. Working hard they transformed the "ugly little farm" into the place that people in the Hatch valley admired. He learned to love Matanzas and pit cooking. David, a man of all trades, loved his wife, family, his poetry, music, hunting, fishing, and raising calves. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4308 instituted June 1992, and the first worthy president. The family would like to thank Mesilla Valley Hospice and a special thanks to Jon LaVertu for the love of David's poetry and especially the poem, "A Gal Named Sue." The family appreciates Jon's compassionate and expert care of David, making the last years of his life as comfortable as possible. Sal moved to Southern California in the early 1950's where he resided for most of his adult life. Sal was married to the love of his life, Mary Rodriguez, for over 47 years. He is survived by his five children, Veronica Gonzalez, Terry Guerrero, Connie Hernandez, Vickie Gutierrez, and Salvador Enriquez Jr. Sal had four son-in-laws, and one daughter-in-law. He also, is survived by ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Salvador was a superb entrepreneur and businessman. He was self-employed for over 40 years. He was a great provider that never backed down from any challenges in life. Sal was a huge family man, with all his early achievements; he was able to move his parents and siblings from New Mexico to Southern California in the early 1960's. Salvador's favorite hobbies were anything that involved cards and horse racing. He had a passion for dancing, as all of his siblings do, and you could always find them on the dance floor. Salvador Solis Enriquez lived a great and powerful life that ended on October 29th 2010. He was 76. His place of death was Loma Linda, Ca. Services are on November 5th from 5-9pm and at10am on the 6th at Green Acres memorial Park in Bloomington, Ca. Yoko will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Yoko was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jose and Socorro Jimenez. She was born April 16, 1926 in McAfee, New Mexico to Manuel and Vicenta Solis Diaz. Juanita was one of the pioneer members of the First Spanish Assembly of God Church - now Living Waters, where she was a devoted member. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Council. Juanita was a loving and caring mother and grandmother she touched many lives and was loved by everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. Juanita was a hard working mother as she raised all her children alone. During her lifetime, Juanita worked at various jobs, including Lucero's Steakhouse. Later on she worked at Good Samaritan as a Nurses Aide until she retired. Juanita loved going to church, she enjoyed cooking for and being with her family; she enjoyed gardening and canning fruits and vegetables. Juanita was a very giving person to all who knew her. Those left to mourn her passing include a son, Isaac Tarin of Las Cruces; five daughters, Mary Helen Tarin of El Segundo, California, Toni Tarin Rodriguez and companion Ruben Lujan, Rebecca Tarin Arellin and companion Salomon Garcia, Rosalie Tarin Maldonado, Dora Tarin Samaniego and husband Rudy all of Las Cruces; a son-in-law, Freddie Rodriguez of Las Cruces; two brothers, Manuel Diaz, Jr. and Danny Diaz both of California; six sisters, Rosa Aguirre of El Paso, Texas, Lupe Gamboa, Mary Mendoza, Socorro Seneff, Dolores Encinas all of California, Pat Martinez of Las Cruces. Other survivors include eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Simon Tarin; a son, Jack Tarin; two brothers, Bernie and Tony Diaz; three sisters, Margarita Diaz, Maria Hernandez and Florencia Diaz. He had resided in Las Cruces since 2007 after living in Deming for 71 years. He was born in Strauss, NM (Doña Ana County) in 1925 to W.A. "Jack" Beckett and Annie Sue Sommerville. His father worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and the family made frequent moves around the Texas-New Mexico region before settling in Deming in 1939. He graduated from Deming High School, served in the U.S. Navy in WWII, earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of New Mexico,and returned to Deming in 1950. In 1951 Bob took over and subsequently bought The General Agency, selling insurance. Bob was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Deming, having served as deacon for about 52 years, along with other leadership posts. He also served on various boards of the New Mexico Baptist Convention, the Southern Baptist Hospital Board, trustee of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and various missions boards. He also served on the board of Carrie Tingley Children's Hospital for five years, with two years as Chairman. After moving, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Las Cruces where he was active in many ministries. >From 1960 to 1964 he was a two-term Deming mayor, a past president of the Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce (chosen as Citizen of the Year in 1971 and again in 2003), and of the Rotary Club where he achieved the Paul Harris Fellow honor in Deming and again in Las Cruces . He was Vice-Chair of the Deming- Luna County Historical Society and spearheaded the expansion and renovation of the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum. The Robert L. Beckett Senior Center Complex in Deming was named for him in 2003 to honor the vital role he had played in obtaining funding for the services and programs provided to the senior citizens of Luna County including a major expansion of the senior center. In 2008, he was named Outstanding Senior Citizen in the state of New Mexico by the NM Aging and Long-Term Services Department. Along with operating The General Agency, he served on the Mimbres Valley Bank (now Wells Fargo) board for 33 years (8 as Chairman) and on the board of Bowlin's Travel Centers for 30 years along with three smaller corporations. Bob "retired" the first time in 1984, when he sold The General Agency which he had operated for 35 years. He and his late wife Jo began to travel as he also continued many church and community affiliations. Around 1986 he became president of the Cooper Agency, which he ran for 15 years before selling it-¬and, in between, recovering from major heart surgery. He and Jo moved to Good Samaritan Village in Las Cruces in 2007 He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Jack and Tom, sons Robert and Harold, wives Katherine (Ruebush) and Jodie (Harrelson).He is survived by his sister Betty Fawcett (Alamo, Texas); daughters Deedra Beckett Daniels (Albuquerque), Dielle Beckett Bradford (Aledo, Texas) and Barbara Harrelson (Santa Fe); by sons Jesse "Bud" Harrelson (Stafford, Texas),and J. Michael Harrelson (Truth or Consequences); by granddaughters Kimberly Daniels Lokke (Albuquerque), Marion Bradford (Aledo, Texas) and Garilee Speer Ogden (Granville, Ohio); by grandsons Coleman Bradford (Aledo, Texas), and Ky Speer (Deming); and four great-grandchildren. Services were held at First Baptist Church Deming and First Baptist Church Las Cruces on Saturday, October 30th, 2010. Funeral services were held Friday, October 22 at 1:00 PM at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in Spring, Texas. Graveside services and burial will be in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery in North Lauderdale, Florida. Arrangements are being handled by Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery in Humble, Texas. Mr. Reese was born May 24, 1919 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Mary and Benjamin Reese. He graduated from high school in 1937 and served during World War II in the United States Army. On January 14, 1941, prior to joining the Army, he discovered a comet which today bears his name. For his discovery, Mr. Reese was awarded a medal from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. After the war he moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico and enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an astronomer at New Mexico State University where he was a noted authority on the planet Jupiter. In 1974 he met and married the love of his life, Margaret S. Hedges. His family wrote: "Elmer loved all elements of the natural world. He loved astronomy, photography, and was a gifted amateur naturalist. He was a quiet, sweet and gentle man who deeply loved his family. He will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him." Mr. Reese is survived by his sister, Marian Matthews of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, his two nieces, Carol Lee Matthews of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, and Mary Lynn Matthews of Sarasota, Florida, and 6 step children, 15 grand children and 25 great grand children.
