Maria Luisa came to Las Cruces in 1958 after moving here from Valle de Zaragosa, Chihuahua where she was born on June 21, 1942 to Julian Salcido and Francisca Barraza. She was born a premature baby and was not expected to live overnight. Maria Luisas' will to live carried her for 68 years through many illnesses. Maria was married to Alberto Rubio for 20 years. She found her place of peace in Las Cruces where she raised her children. Maria Luisa was a proud homemaker and enjoyed mothering her children of 5, who survive her honor, her son Albert Rubio Jr. (Maria Elena of California,) Angie Quintana (Javier), Lorena Sanchez (Dennis), Merlinda Gaines (Demond) and Gracie Montes(partner Travis). Maria Luisa is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She enjoyed going to Bingo and on occasion going to the Casino as a pastime. She was a very kind and generous person. She would take some items for sale to the Flea Market and when she was finished selling her goal for the day she would leave her treasures behind for someone else to sell and would allow them to keep the profits. Her favorite dessert was empanadas and she would make them regularly for all of the families to enjoy. Her favorite colors were Teal and Red. One of her favorite things to do was plant and grow vegetables. The aspect of watering and the ability to grow from the earth were true pleasure for her. Maria Luisa, self conscious about her 4' 11" height, always wore her tacones. Whether she was doing yard work or shopping you would always find her in her heels. Maria Luisa loved her children with all of the heart God gave her to care with to the very end of her days. Her smile a! nd her stories will be greatly missed. Pallbearer will be Dennis J. Author: marcenath Surnames: McKenzie, Sanchez Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newmexico.counties.donaana/4978/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Deborah M. Sanchez-McKenzie, 41, left her earthly body Monday November 29th, 2010 at La Posada MVH surrounded by her family and a whole bunch of love, Deborah had been ill for some time. Deborah was boron in Las Cruces to Abraham M. Sanchez (Abe) and Adelaida Jimenez Miller (Lita) on December 13th, 1968. She attended school and lived in Las Cruces until 1982 when she moved away with her mother, sister, and father Jerry miller to Clovis, New Mexico where she graduated from Clovis High School. While attending Clovis High, she played the clarinet in the concert band. She was active in theatre and student council. Deborah was a wonderful and bright student. She graduated class of 1986. Deborah met her husband of 15 years, Stephen Hampton, in Clovis, New Mexico; this union produced two of the most wonderful children a mother could have. Deborah later followed her Air Force husband to Virginia then San Antonio, Texas, which was a place that was very dear to her heart. She loved going to see the San Antonio missions ball team play; she was their loudest supporter in the stands and is to this day probably the only fan that was physically removed from the ballpark for being too vocal in her support of the Missions. Deborah was a very charitable person and was always thinking of others first, she was very outgoing and active in Girl Scouts, Dance, Scuba Diving, and most important to her was her faith and church. She had a great spiritual love for her Lord. Deborah had a great sense of humor, imagination, and really loved to write poetry. She loved to dance in the rain, and never cared who saw her. She later relocated to Carlsbad, New Mexico where she met and married her current husband Richard McKenzie. They moved to Las Cruces to be closer to family and medical services. Deborah was instrumental in her mother's search for a church to call home while she was a young adult in Clovis. Deborah lost her way during her illness, but in the end, the Lord brought her back to the fold. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard "Mack" McKenzie of Las Cruces, her daughters Tamatha Kathleen Mendelzon (husband Brant), and Victoria Casey Hampton of Killeen, Texas. She had one grandson, Michael Allen Mendelzon. She only knew him for 7 weeks, but he was the apple of her eye. She is also survived by her mother Adelaida (Lita) Miller, brother Dennis J. (wife Lorena) Sanchez, sister Denise M. (husband David F.) Thomen of Las Cruces, James Sanchez (partner Jessica Austin) of Santa Fe, brother Duane (wife Lydia) Miller of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by three nephews, seven nieces, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Deborah was preceded in death by her father Abraham M. Sanchez (1980), her dad Jerry W. Miller (11/21/2010), and her youngest brother Abraham M. Sanchez (2004). At her request, Deborah has been cremated and a service of resurrection will be held Saturday December 4th, at 10am in St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 518 N. Alameda. Her remains will be interred in the columbarium in Kendrick Chapel. Arrangements are with La-Paz Graham's Funeral Home.
