    2. Sam-Quito Padilla G.
    3. Hello everyone, As Head Coordinator for the NMDI Project, I also wanted to give an update to you about the NMDI Section 3 and other projects. The Section 3 (years 1941 to 1950) has been put back at least until January of 2003. The death index has not been filmed, still on paper. The person I am dealing with said that they are very shorthanded and will try to get to the death index by December and been ask to all for update on what is happening every month, so they do not forgot. The volunteers are still restless in doing something, so we have decided to index the 1930 New Mexico Census. A soundex was not done for New Mexico and many other states. We have started this important project and looking for assistance from people. You can get more information by going to the New Mexico Death Index Project Website at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmdi.htm and a link in the lower part of the page about the Projects. Your name will be added to the List of Donors/Volunteers on the NMDI Website once your section has been completed. The earliest that Section 3 of the NMDI Project will start is the end of May. As there was a situation with one Donor of Section 1&2 of the NMDI Project (which cost the Project a great deal of money and time), the Transcribe Volunteers will have to sign a wavier stating “I am volunteering to transcribe a part of Section 3 of the NMDI Project, I will keep the ownership (copyright) of the section which I will be transcribing and donate the end product toward the NMDI Project and website without any conditions or restrictions. And I agree that release of the transcribing will not be given to a third party until the entire Section 3 is completed. Actions for violations of the mention above statements will be decided by the Head Coordinator (Sam-Quito) and Co-Coordinator (Gina) of the NMDI Project.” I do apologies for taking this extreme measure as we are all Volunteers and had learn our lesson from Section 1 & 2, not to be repeated. At last count, there was over 8000 hits on the site from when it gone on-line on November 6. I have removed the counter from the site, as who cares how many people have gone to the site. If you have not heard of the New Mexico Death Index Site or have not visited the site, the URL (address) is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmdi.htm A big thank you goes out to people whom order photocopies of DC (death records) from the Volunteers. Half of the request fee went toward Section/Book 3 budget. With the large amount of requests, we have reached the estimated budget for Section/Book 3. With the budget goal been reach, the Volunteers will not be accepting anymore request postmark after December 31, 2001. There is a link on the NMDI website of various sources on where to request a DC.
