    1. [NMCibola] NM FGS Challenge is big a success!
    2. Gen
    3. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/newmexico/ The NM FGS Project has met its challenge of 150 FGS online for the latest round of additions. Keep sending your FGS ! Remember to check your FGS to find any errors or omissions that I may have made. If you do not see your FGS online in 48 hours, please email me. I have a new spam guard in place and it sends many good emails to a holding file. The project has grown to the point where an assistant is necessary for the project. If you are interested and willing to work one hour a week, please email me. You do not any special skills other than addition to add a few numbers. You do not need to be a member of NMGenWeb. This is a USGenWeb Project. Thank you all for your great FGS submissions!!! Charles Barnum

    2. Gen
    3. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/newmexico/ The NM FGS project is a USGenWeb Special Project, not to be confused with a NMGenWeb State Project as has been reported on other sites. I am issuing a challenge to NM Researchers to submit 20 additional FGS this month. For every NM FGS submitted, I will submit one from my own family. This will put us well over 150 FGSs. I have received niece emails from researchers saying that the FGS Project is valuable to them. Send those FGS this next week!! Thanks to all for the success of the NM FGS! Charles B.

    1. [NMCibola] 1930 NM Census Index & NMDI Projects Update
    2. NMDI Projects
    3. Hello New Mexico Researchers, Here is an update on the 1930 Census Project & Section 3 of the NMDI Project for the months of September & October. So far, there are 18 counties of the 1930 NM Census Index have been partly or fully completed. These counties are Catron, Cháves, Curry, Doña Ana, Eddy, Guadalupe, Luna, McKinley, Otero, Roosevelt, San Juan, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fé, Sierra, Torrance, Union and Valencia. When the counties are being completed, Gina will be posting that specific county in their NMGenWeb Archives File website at: www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmfiles.htm. When the project is completed, all the counties will be combined into an engine search and still leaving the specific counties in their Archives File websites. The NMDI (New Mexico Death Index) also will be in this engine search format once the Section 3 of the project is completed. The deadline for the 1930 NM Census Index has been set for December of this 2003. If anyone is interested in volunteering, we do need a couple reserved volunteers. Email me at: newmexdi@hotmail.com for more information. You will need to have a CD ROM to help out and be working at home during your free time. Now, lets get into the budget of the NMDI Projects. Sadly, we are still in the RED. The money raised to date is $1536.06 (donation total $1202.50 and look-up profits $333.56). The budget for the NMDI Projects (Census Project estimated budget to date is $1150.50) and Section 3 (estimated budget total is 545.80) total to $1696.30. So are still in debt of $160.24. To raise money for covering the NMDI Budget, we have two main fundraisers to help us out. You can request a DC (death certificate) look up (details in the next paragraph) and stamp collecting (details are two paragraphs below). We do hope to get your support in the fundraisers. One of our major fundraiser toward all the NMDI Projects has been DC (death certificate) look-up. We only accept written request taken off the NMDI website, along with the fee and send them the photocopy of the DC. All the remaining money of the fees goes toward the NMDI Budget. For more information on this, go to www.nmia.com/~samquito/nmdir.html. Another fundraiser for the NMDI Projects is collect used/cancel postage stamps from everyone (USA and Worldwide, including duplicates). Thanks to all those people who sent the stamps! The holidays are fast approaching and those cards will soon be appearing in your mailbox. Also, I was told on my last visit if I had any used postcards, as they will buy them too. So send any used/cancel stamps and postcards to myself at: Sam-Quito Padilla G., P. O. Box 114, La Joya, NM 87028-0114. Please include your return address. Section 3 of the NMDI Project Update: About the 1941-1950 Death Index, I am waiting from vital records to see if the index is going to be filmed by the LDS Church or the NMDI Projects (myself) into microfilm or microfiche. I’ve been told that a decision will be made by the end of September. This death index is still in loose-leaf notebooks and not available to the public. When Section 3 of the death index is completed, all of the NMDI (years 1899 to 1950) will be converted into a searchable database. For information on look-ups on the NMDI (New Mexico Death Index) Project, go to the website at: www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmdi.htm. That is all for now. The next update will be sent out at the beginning of November. Bye for now, Sam-Quito * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * A message from Sam-Quito Padilla G. 1. [NMCibola] NM FGS New Site
    2. Gen
    3. Hello NM Researchers, I'm happy to announce a new project, the New Mexico Family Group Sheet (FGS) project. It's my privilege to be managing it, and I hope to be very busy adding family group sheets submitted by all of you. I have completely revised the web site. Drop by! I think you'll find the pages easy to read and use, but if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. The USFGS home page (http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/) links to all the states that have a family group project. I hope you'll take advantage of this new project. Those of us who have been working to bring it to New Mexico are very excited about its possibilities. Any family group that lived in New Mexico, even for a short time, can be posted. THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CANNOT BE POSTED ARE THOSE WHO ARE LIVING. Each family group sheet provides space for basic information about father, mother, and children; so if you only know about one family unit, you know enough to put the information up. If you know more, you can add more family group sheets: the father's parents and siblings, the mother's parents and siblings, the children's spouses and children, and on and on. If you've traced the family on into Kansas, Colorado, and Oregon, you can post your group sheet in those states as well as New Mexico. Just one family sheet in one state can be enough to make new and exciting connections. We've prepared the pages and forms, added search engines and links, and now it's in your hands. Send in your family group sheets. One a day, one a week, whatever works for you. Tell your fellow researchers about the site. Talk about it at your next genealogical society meeting. Mention it in your emails. The more people hear about the site, the more contributions we're likely to get; and the more contributions we receive, the more valuable the project is going to be. I'll be waiting for your family to turn up in my mailbox! Charles http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/newmexico/

    1. [NMCibola] NEW MEXICO DEATH INDEX PROJECTS UPDATE
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Census Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2RB.2ACI/256 Message Board Post: Hello New Mexico Researchers, Here is an update on the 1930 Census Project & Section 3 of the NMDI Project. I do apologies for sending this update later that the June, which I had promise. But due to some personal, health and family issues, I had to put the update on hold. If you had sent an email to the project or myself and used my NMIA email account, I am having problems receiving anything in my “inbox”. Please send anything regarding the project or myself to: newmexdi@hotmail.com. My computer will be getting an overhaul physical at the end of August, so I do hope all problems with my email account and my computer in general would be fix. Until then, I have to suffer the problems with my computer (turning off when it wants to, screen blinking on and off, the touch pad freezing, the hard drive sometimes works real slowly, etc.). So far, there are 17 counties of the 1930 NM Census Index have been partly or fully completed. These counties are Catron, Cháves, Curry, Doña Ana, Eddy, Guadalupe, Luna, McKinley, Roosevelt, San Juan, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fé, Sierra, Torrance, Union and Valencia. Most of these counties indices are listed in their Archives Files website [http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmfiles.htm]. When all the counties are completed, they will be combined into a searchable database. The deadline for the 1930 NM Census Index has been put back to December of this 2003. As we still need 4 more volunteers to work on sections and other volunteers are still working on their section. We wish for all the volunteers to enjoy this project and not rush them on their work. We must remember that all of us are volunteers. If anyone is interested in volunteering, we do need about 4 more volunteers. Email me at: newmexdi@hotmail.com for more information. You will need to have a CD ROM to help out and be working at home during your free time. As I had problems with the Post Office Box and mail being missing from the box, I have closed the box in the beginning of July and using my personal Post Office Box for the NMDI Project. It is much easier to collect the mail, as the original box was a bit out of the way in the Northeast Heights of Albuquerque. The new address is: P. O. Box 114, La Joya, NM 87028-0114. The Post Office in Albuquerque told me that all mail sent to the old address would be forwarded to my new address in La Joya for one year. But I know that some stuff had been sent to the old address and nothing as been forwarded. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANYTHING TO THE OLD ALBUQUERQUE ADDRESS. Now, lets get into the budget of the NMDI Projects. Sadly, we are still in the RED. The money raised to date is $1406.53 (donation total $1107.45 and look-up profits $298.98). The budget for the NMDI Projects (Census Project estimated budget to date is $1089.89) and Section 3 (estimated budget total is 545.80) total to $1635.69. So are still in debt of $229.16. All Donors &Volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation once the project is completed. One of our major fundraiser toward all the NMDI Projects has been DC (death certificate) look-up. We only accept written request taken off the NMDI website, along with the fee and send them the photocopy of the DC. All the remaining money of the fees goes toward the NMDI Budget. For more information on this, go to: www.nmia.com/~samquito/nmdir.html. Another fundraiser for the NMDI Projects is collect used/cancel postage stamps from everyone (USA and Worldwide). Thanks to all those people who sent the stamps! We had received almost 2 kilogrammes of stamps. We were going to get $11.00 for the lot. I had explained to the dealer that the money is going for the NMDI Projects, so she made it an even $25.00. So send any used/cancel stamps to myself at: Sam-Quito Padilla G., P. O. Box 114, La Joya, NM 87028-0114. Please include your return address and note in the envelope if you wish to be reimbursed for the postage. Section 3 of the NMDI Project Update: About the 1941-1950 death index, still have not heard anything. I am expecting an answer any day from vital records to see if the index is going to be filmed by the LDS Church or the NMDI Projects (myself) into microfilm or microfiche. This death index is still in loose-leaf notebooks and not available to the public. I hope to have more news about the death index in the update in September. Other news, the NMDI Project Co-Coordinator, Gina Heffernan, would like to invite all of you to visit the new Family Group Sheet Project. It is in its infancy and we have no sheets at this time but if it is anything like the other states that have them for a while it should prove to be a good place to find clues to those dead ends. The New Mexico project is at www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/newmexico/. The National page is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/. Along with my position as Host Coordinator for NMGenWeb Sierra, Socorro and Valencia Counties, and Head Coordinator for the New Mexico Death Index (NMDI) Projects, I am also the File Manager for NMGenWeb Archives Files Project. Please take a look at the NMGenWeb Archives Files Project and individual county sites at: www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmfiles.htm. If you have any information, which you would like to submit on individual counties, such as Family Bios, Obits, Cemeteries Surveys and etc., the Archives Files Project would be please to host them. Anything you submit belongs to you. If you submit anything, which is not written by yourself, we need a release from the writer for permission before we can include in the Archives Files Project. Also, to remove the information from the Archives Files Project, we just require a statement from the submitter. With your help, the NMGenWeb Archives Files Project can build large library of wealth that would benefit other New! Mexican Researchers. Just go to the county to get more information on how to submit. Thank you for your time. 2. Gen
    3. Hi New Mexico, http://www.rootsweb.com/~nmahgp/index.htm NMG ~~New Mexico Genealogy is now online thanks to rootsweb.com. This a streamlined web replacing the old NewMexicoGenealogy.org. In time, a re-direct will take everyone from that old URL to the new one. Pls visit the new site and bookmark it. We wish to hear about any "bad" links or navigation problems, or any comment. NMG is a sister site to NMA. We added a death record and one cemetery today to NMA. We have several on the way. Please consider sending us your cemetery survey, new, old, or a re-survey of any existing record. I'm especially interested in Mogollon Cemetery. If you have access to that or know anyone who does, I hope you'll direct them our way. To be added soon, will be county death records prior to when the state started keeping the records. If you'd care to add your county, visit your county courthouse and ask the clerk if they have the early county death records, before 1919/~30. They may say no, but they may be wrong. Some counties kept those death records. One county I visited did not know they had them! The Team at NMA

    3. Hello, Id like to tell you about a new web site for New Mexico Genealogy. It is NMA. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nma/ This site was designed with no external links. NMA is for information, not links. A site such as this will not be found anywhere else in America. Over 4,000 internal pages and links comprise this project with over 28,000kbs of data and a quarter of a million entries. Your cemetery survey and other works are welcomed here. If your survey is not displayed with us, please send the file so it can be entered. If your survey is displayed on another web site, it can be presented here beautifully and with dignity. Compilers and Surveyors deserve to have their work presented on premier websites. Other projects are being added and special announcements will be made on the county email lists as those are completed. Almost 50 new projects are under study or currently being typed. Re-surveys of cemeteries are valuable as they contain new information and corrections. Consider doing a re-survey of any cemetery. You comments are most welcomed. 1. [NMCibola] IMPORTANT NOTICE ON NMDI LOOK-UPS
    2. NMDI Projects
    3. Hello New Mexico Researchers, This notice is very important warning for anyone whom requested a DC (death certificate) look-up from the NMDI Volunteers (basically myself, since my 3 Granny Volunteers gone on to other projects). I have discover that someone has been stealing the mailing from my Post Office Box from an email which one person sent in a request and I never received and this cheque had been altered. I had also received over the past few months emails from people whom volunteer to help out in the 1930 NM Census Index Project. Every volunteer must complete a disclaimer and I would never receive it. I have been away for one month and when to collect my mail from the Post Office, there was not much and with the exception of 2 larger items, which don’t fit in the box, all the other items were postmark (cancelled) after May 20. I subscribe to newspaper issued bi-weekly that was not in the batch of mail. Along with no telephone bill, no credit card bill, and some b-day cards friends had said they sent and a post card I had sent to myself on the drive out to California (I stop at the Grand Canyon), there were only 4 other pieces of mail (requests of DC look-ups). An average of 5 to 8 pieces of request look-ups arrive per week. I have contacted the Post Office about the situation. They are investigating the problem and I need anyone whom sent anything to me via the post and never heard a reply, please contact me ASAP at newmexdi@hotmail.com. The Post Office had change the lock on my box and for this month (June), will hold any mail and I must go to the counter to collect any mail to my box.
