Happy Easter! Here is an update on the 1930 Census Project & Section 3 of the NMDI Project. So far, there are 11 counties of the 1930 NM Census Index have been completed. These counties are Catron, Cháves, Curry, Eddy, Guadalupe, Luna, McKinley, Roosevelt, San Miguel, Sandoval, Sierra, Torrance and Valencia. Most of these counties indices are listed in their Archives Files website [http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmfiles.htm]. When all the counties are completed, they will be combined into a searchable database. If anyone is interested in volunteering, we do need about 5 more volunteers. Email me at: newmexdi@hotmail.com for more information. You will need to have a CD ROM to help out and be working at home during your free time. As we put a deadline for the end of December for this project to be completed. As we already passed December and had to replace some volunteers, we have pushed the goal for the deadline of the project for end of July of 2003. A reminder to the volunteers, please check-in at the beginning of May and June with a report of your progress (the ones whom completed their counties do not need to report in). When the counties are being completed, Gina will be posting that specific county in their NMGenWeb Archives File website [http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmfiles.htm]. When the project is completed, all the counties will be combined into an engine search and still leaving the specific counties in their Archives File websites. The NMDI (New Mexico Death Index) also will be in this engine search format once the Section 3 of the project is completed. Now, lets get into the budget. Sadly, we are still in the RED. The money raised to date is $1227.67 (donation total $1003.55 and look-up profits $224.12). The budget for the NMDI Projects (Census Project estimated budget to date is $1089.89) and Section 3 (estimated budget total is 545.80) total to $1635.69. So are in debt of $408.02 (OUCH!). You can get more information about the donations and volunteering at: http://www.nmia.com/~samquito/otherprojects.html. One of our major fundraiser toward all the NMDI Projects has been DC (death certificate) look-ups. We only accept written request taken off the NMDI website, along with the fee and send them the photocopy of the DC. All the remaining money of the fees goes toward the NMDI Budget. With the exception of donations from wonderful people, this other DC look-ups are the only other fundraiser to cover the budget. For more information on this, click on http://www.nmia.com/~samquito/nmdir.html. Section 3 of the NMDI Project Update: I had finally been in touch with the director of Vital Records from the FAX proposal of filming the 1941-1950 death index. She had stated that they are going to contact the LDS Church to see if they are interested. If they get an negative response, she will contact me about filming the 1941-1950 death index. I am expecting to hear from her by the end of May on the situation. I will inform you on what I do hear. I do not see the start of Section 3 of the NMDI until October at the earliest. In the research and dealing with Vital Records, we now have access to the death certificates from 1941 to 1951. But there is no Death Index available. The look-up volunteer (I am the only one left, my other help are not available until after the summertime), I can do look-ups for death certificates for 1941 to 1951 ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE EXAZT DATE OR MONTH AND YEAR, COUNTY OF DEATH AND OF COURSE, THE FULL NAME OF THE DECEASE. The prices are the same as requesting 1899 to 1940 death certificates. For more info at: http://www.nmia.com/~samquito/nmdir.html. I guess that is all for this update. Another update will be send out in June. Until then, bye for now and happy holidays! Sam-Quito Padilla G. Co-Coordinator, NMDI Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmdi.htm

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Census Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2RB.2ACI/249.1 Message Board Post: Hello everyone, First of all, if you sent an email to me at my nmia.com account, I am still having difficulty getting into that account. I been shown how to get into the account via the Internet and will shortly reply if you sent an email. Any questions about the NMDI Projects to: newmexdi@hotmail.com, as I do not have any problems in accessing this account. Here is an update on the 1930 Census Project & Section 3 of the NMDI Project. So far, there are 11 counties of the 1930 NM Census Index have been completed. These counties are Catron, Cháves, Curry, Eddy, Guadalupe, McKinley, Roosevelt, Sandoval, Sierra, Torrance and Valencia. Most of these counties indices are listed in their Archives Files website [http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmfiles.htm]. In the next few weeks, Cháves and Eddy will go on-line (still being proofread). When all the counties are completed, they will be combined into a searchable database. In the last update, I have asked for you to save stamps for our project as a fundraiser. I do have a bag full of stamps, but I need your help in filling up as many bags as possible. When I go to California for a check-up at the end of February (26th), I will be selling those stamps to a stamp dealer and all the money will go toward the budget. Depending on what kind of stamps are in the bag, the dealer decides on the price. So, please save those used stamps. In tearing off the stamps, please leave some paper around the stamp, not to tear or cut the stamp/s. And any kinds of stamps (foreign or USA – and duplicates too) are welcome. And please send any stamps to myself at: Sam-Quito Padilla G., P. O. Box 53184, Albuquerque, NM 87153-3184. And a BIG THANK YOU to the people whom already sent me stamps! I had mentioned about 4 volunteers whom have lost contact about their assigned counties. Well, I am happy to say that 2 of them had check-in. I have made a decision about replacing the 2 volunteers whom disappeared (adding cost to our budget, where we have no money). There were a couple of volunteers whom needed assistance in their counties; we had just enough volunteers to cover all the counties. But I do need 2 more volunteers! If any of the volunteers are having difficultly in your section, please contact me. I will find someone to help you out. We want you to enjoy this project and do not get stress out. As we put a deadline for the end of December for this project to be completed. As we already passed December and had to replace some volunteers, we have pushed the goal for the deadline of the project for end of May of 2003. A reminder to the volunteers, please check-in at the beginning of March, April and May with a report of your progress (the ones whom completed their counties do not need to report in). The money raised to date is $996.47 (donation total $799.05 and look-up profits $197.42). The budget for the Census Project to date is $994.92 and this cover the project. But we still need to pay back the Section 3 fund of $545.80, so are in debt of $544.25 (OUCH!). You can get more information about the project at: http://www.nmia.com/~samquito/otherprojects.html. One of our major fundraiser toward all the NMDI Projects has been DC (death certificate) look-ups. We only accept written request taken off the NMDI website, along with the fee and send them the photocopy of the DC. All the remaining money of the fees go toward the NMDI Budget. With the exception of donations from wonderful people, this other DC look-ups is the only other fundraiser to cover the budget. We have raised so far, $197.42 in profit for DC look-ups. The average profit from each DC look-up is 29¢; depending on how many DC’s are requested. The only money, which come out of the fees are for the photocopy and postage. My parents have been very supportive in my projects and donated a large number of envelopes, which I use to send out the requests. For more information on this, click on http://www.nmia.com/~samquito/nmdir.html. I have recently been accused from a couple of people of profiting from these projects. This is far from the truth. I live in Belén, about 30 miles south of Albuquerque. I make the drive to Albuquerque weekly to do the look-ups and other research (health permitting). I do not take any money from the budget for the cost of travel or for any expenses for my volunteers or myself. All monies, which is raise or donated, goes toward the project. My main goal, along with the NMDI Projects are to provide genealogical information to people on-line for no cost. But we need donations and volunteers to get this information on-line. Our project are indices, so people can request from the proper authorities for a copy of the original document. If I wanted to profit from this project, why would I put up the money of the NMDI Projects? There was no money to get the projects started; I borrow money from my credit card to get the ball rolling. I have faith that there are people! whom believe in the same idea as the NMDI Projects and the projects’ budget will be covered by the completion. I volunteer my time in co-coordinate the NMDI Project with a wonderful person name Gina Heffernan, whom also is my co-coordinate for the NMGenWeb Archives Files Project. I also host NMGenWeb’s county websites of Sierra, Socorro and Valencia (take a look at the NMGenWeb website at: http://www.nmgenweb.net). Along with Gina and myself, the people of NMDI Project, NMGenWeb and USGenWeb are all volunteers and all of us do not deserve any abuse from people whom have nothing else better to do. We do this job as we want to help people and not need to hear from “Internet Bullies” (a new term to describe abuse via email on the Internet). Section 3 of the NMDI Project is on-hold until we completed the Census Index Project. I have been having difficulty in getting in contact with the person I been working with in obtaining Section 3 of the NMDI. But received word that the person I been dealing with has been in an accident and been off work for some time to recover. She might be returning back to work next week or so. So, I do not have any new information on when we will be getting it or cost and etc. I will know more when the next update in mid-March. Another project, which the NMDI Project is planning on doing, is the D-CB (Delay Certificate of Birth) Index. The D-CB are certificates of people whom were born before 1919 (although the majority of the people were born before 1900, as Birth Certificates were not required by the state until 1919. People applying to work for the government or related jobs or applying for Social Security and needed proof of citizenship. That is why they are called “Delay Certificate of Birth” and needed at least two affidavits from relatives/people whom knew the person since birth. The D-CB were applied after the 1930’s (Social Security started in the 1930’s). Another project, which will not cost the project any money is to scan the DC requests and put them on the NMGenWeb Archives website. Someone had suggested in doing this last week. This would help out some researchers whom are looking for the same people. I would include the email address (or if no email address, mailing address) of the person whom requested the DC for them to connect. I am hoping that I had covered everything. Bye for now, Sam-Quito Co-Coordinator, NMDI Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmdi.htm

He was my great great grandfather, once married to a Consuelo Mace of Grants. Consuelo passed away in 1977 of a freak car accident in her own yard. She was widowed at the time, with Tony being her husband. There are no records of this man in any family cemetary plots, whether it be in Grants or Gallup. Together these two owned a business, but what type I don't know. The Mace family owned quite a bit of property in Grants, near the old Malapis grounds but I can't remember what highway it was near. It was a major interstate. I am interested in this side of the family only because there is no information. It is intriguing to me.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2RB.2ACI/249 Message Board Post: Hello New Mexican Researcher, I am sending you an update of the latest progress report about the NMDI’s Projects on the Census Index and Section 3 of the Death Index sent to the Volunteers and Donors. I have deleted some section of the update, as they had to deal with only the Volunteers and Donors. = Here is an update on the 1930 Census Project & Section 3 of the NMDI Project. If you tried to contact me at my NMIA email account and have not heard a reply. This is due to problems getting into the email account. It has been fix today! So far, 6 counties of the 1930 NM Census Index have been completed. These counties are Catron, Curry, Guadalupe, McKinley, Roosevelt and Valencia. When all the counties are completed, they will be combined into a searchable database. The Holiday Season is coming around and the greeting cards will be filling your mailbox. I ask all of you to save the used stamps on those greeting cards. I am saving the stamps for our project (I used to save these stamps for charity, but out project need funds). I do have a bag full of stamps, but I need your help in filling up as many bags as possible. When I go to California for a check-up in February, I will be selling those stamps to a stamp dealer and that money will go toward the budget. Depending on what is in the bags, the dealer will pay between $3 to $7 dollars per kilo (in weight). So, please save those used stamps and send them to me after the New Year. In tearing off the stamps, please leave some paper around the stamp, not to tear or cut the stamp/s. And any kinds of stamps (foreign or USA – and duplicates too) are welcome. [address: P. O. Box 53184, Albuquerque, NM 87153-3184] Now, lets get into the budget. Sadly, we are still in the RED. But I have not been pushing the fundraising recently, due to bad health. But I will be blitzing the net to get money coming in. I can use your help. If you have emails of people, but do not want to bother them yourself, send me their email addresses and I will send them an email in the New Year about the project at: newmexdi@hotmail.com. The money raised to date is $539.50. And the budget for the Census Project to date is $904.65. We still need to pay back the Section 3 fund of $545.80, so we are in debt of $910.95 (OUCH!). This brings me to something I am unhappy about. There are 6 volunteers whom have not check-in or responded to a number of emails and 2 letters I had sent out. I will make a decision about replacing them (adding cost to our budget, where we have no money) in the New Year. I am hoping the missing volunteers will contact me ASAP about their participation in the project (hopefully it will before the end of the year). This brings me to ask for more volunteers. If you know of anyone whom has a computer with MS Excel or Works (or any word processing programme), please have them contact me at: newmexdi@hotmail.com. As we put a deadline for the end of December for this project to be completed. As we are in December and many of you are still busy working away, we have pushed the goal for the deadline of the project for end of March/beginning of April of 2003. And we do ask you (if you have not already) to check in for December. But you will get a break for January, as the next check-in will be at the end of January. I will then be able to make an update report at the beginning of February. When the counties are being completed, Gina will be posting that specific county in their NMGenWeb Archives File website at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmfiles.htm. When the project is completed, all the counties will be combined into an engine search and still leaving the specific counties in their Archives File websites. The NMDI (New Mexico Death Index) also will be in this engine search format once the Section 3 of the project is completed. Section 3 of the NMDI Project is on-hold until we completed the Census Index Project. More info about Section 3 will be reported in the next update in February. 1. [NMCibola] 1930 Census Index Project
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Census Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2RB.2ACI/243 Message Board Post: Hello there New Mexican Researcher, My name is Sam-Quito Padilla G., and I am the Head Coordinator for the New Mexico Death Index Project. I am sending and SOS out for assistance to the newest project under the NMDI (New Mexico Death Index) Project. I am not sure if you are familiar with the project, check it out at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmdi.htm . Although the NMDI Project is not completed, I wanted to give you an update on what is happening. The Section 3 (years 1941 to 1950) has been put back at least until January of 2003. The death index has not been filmed, still on paper. The department said that they are very shorthanded and will try to get to the death index by December or early 2003. There are many people waiting for this section to be completed and will make an announcement when this part of the project starts. Our volunteers are still very restless in doing something, so we have started to index the 1930 New Mexico Census. A soundex was not done for New Mexico and many other states for the 1930 Census. We have started this important project and looking for assistance from people as yourself. Please check out the NMDI website and see how you can help out in this important project as we need your help at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmdi.htm and there is a link in the lower part of the page about the NMDI Projects. Bye for now, Sam-Quito newmexdi@hotmail.com
