    3. Posted on: Cibola Co. NM Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NM/Cibola/33 Surname: Martinez, Gonzales ------------------------- I'm searching for info about my great grandparents who were residents of Cibola Co NM, particularly Cabezon and San Mateo. Ruperto Gonzales was born Mar 1872 and his wife Juanita Martinez was born Dec 1873 (as per the 1900 census) I know he was killed not far from Cabezon and is buried there. Juanita and a son, Evaristo, are buried in San Mateo. I'm looking for the names of Juanita and Ruperto's parents or wonder if they had brothers or sisters. We would like very much to mark their resting places with nice markers, but don't have much info. Can anyone help? Many thanks. Liza

    1. [NMCIBOLA ] McLellan/McClellan
    2. Hello. :) I am attempting to track down my g-grandfather who apparently went to Grant, New Mexico at some point. I haven't yet been able to determine if it was Grants or Grant City yet, though. McLellan/McClellan, James Arthur. b. 28 July 1862 in Will County, Joliet, Illinois. m. Annie Davis; children: Floyd Ellsworth b. 1895, Harold Davis b. 1900, Marlen Lavan b. 1905, Merrick County, Palmer, Nebraska, Lorene b. 1907. He purchased property 5 miles NW of Grant, New Mexico, purchase date unknown. And sold it in 1913 - 1914. James would have arrived in New Mexico sometime after 1907, since one child was born in Nebraska at that time. I have no place of birth for the other children. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! :) Beth

    3. Posted on: Cibola Co. NM Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NM/Cibola?read=26 Surname: McBride, McKee ------------------------- Hi. Thanks for responding. The information I have is that Hugh W. McBride, b. 19 Feb 1840, was the son of Alexander S. McBride and Maria McKee. The PA county history says he died at Fort Wingate on 20 Sep 1884, that he had married "a Spanish lady", and had issue, but nothing further. A prior reader of this message in McKinley Co. page indicated to me that Fort Wingate was located in the area of Cibola Co. during this time frame. I would be very interested if you could point out to me the resources from which you have your data on the marriage to Antonia Baca. Were there any children? Thanks again.

Can you tell me if you have any information on descendents of McBRIDE in this part of New Mexico. I have an ancestor, Hugh McBride, who, according to a Pennsylvania county history, died at Fort Wingate in the New Mexico Territory in 1882.  Census has him at Fort Defiance, age 20, in 1860. The PA history says that he married and had issue before dying there in his 40's.. I am looking for any sources for history of Army activities in this area in the late 1800's, or perhaps sources for local vital records for Army personnel in the (now) McKinley County area. Thanks. 1. [NMCIBOLA-L] The Buffalo Barracks
    2. Clifford R. Williams
    3. To All Whom It May Concern: This message is to inform all genealogists, researchers, historians, teachers and students, about a very important web site that has a searchable database of over 1, 650 U.S. Regular Army soldiers who once served at the short-lived Buffalo Barracks between 1835 and 1846. Many of these soldiers fought in the Florida Indian Wars and then went on to fight in the Mexican the Civil War before migrating westward. The 1840 Census of Buffalo, NY lists Colonel James M. Bankhead and a total 'quantity' of 671 individuals, ranging in age from 1 to 60, under his command and/or his responsibility. Unfortunately, the census does not list each of these barracks residents by name....only by quantity. HOWEVER, The Buffalo Barracks Historical Web Site has made available, free of charge, the names of all officers and soldiers (and some of their wifes and dependants...see Barracks Notes) who lived at this federal military post located on the Niagara Frontier. The URL for this outstanding web site is: [ www.buffalonet.org/army ] There, you will discover the "Descriptive & Historical Register Data for Enlisted Soldiers in the U.S. Army," as well as a wealth of information pertaining to the Buffalo Barracks and it's unique historic value. I encourage everyone to take the time to visit this site. Perhaps you have an ancestor who once served there? Enjoy your visit, Cliff Williams 104740.372@compuserve.com buffalobarracks@hotbot.com
