Hi, I am trying to find the ancestors/descendants of John Schitter, born to Christian Schitter and his first wife. Christian and his family lived in Dubois County, Indiana during the mid 1850's. Sometime about the 1880's or a bit later, John and his half-brother, Henry, left the county. Henry ended up in Salt Lake City and then to California. The family in Indiana had heard that John either went to Mexico, New Mexico or Arizona and farmed. Also since the surname is spelled Schitter and Schuetter, people often pronounced it Shooter, so the spelling has been changed from Schitter/Schuetter to Schudder or Shudder. John was born about 1848. John may have been married while he lived in Indiana-- I have seen a picture of a little girl with long curls, she is about 5-10, and no date is on the picture, but it looks to be over a 100 yrs old. On the back of the picture is written granddaughter of John Schitter. Also, I had heard that John may have taken a native American for a wife. But the little girl is definately not Indian or Hispanic. Can anyone help with this mystery fellow?
