    1. [NMBERNAL] Question on a new list?
    2. W. David Samuelsen
    3. I would like to know how others would feel if there's going to be a new list that is catered only to the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who work on their Spanish/Colonial ancestors of New Mexico?? The reason for asking is that I am finding a lot of redundant work being done in last 10 years already. If there is to be any cooperation, it has to be done somehow in a way where duplication is avoid. Please no ostracizing or denouncing one religion just because of the beliefs in response to this query. Surname lists are not helping in this matter due to considerable intermarriages of several families who settled before 1800 in the Rio Grande River drainage and the environs of the area. Duran, Chavez, Armijo, Duran y Chavez, Duran y Armijo, Padilla, Baca, Vaca, Apodaca/Gonzalez de Apodaca, Arguello, Montoya/Montolla, Tafoya/Tafolla, Aranda y Sabedra/Sabedra, etc. Considerable intermarriages and incomplete information and even assumptions abound because of lack of access to proper records by some members. I've corrected a good number of errors while compiling a pedigree for my friend because I had access to the records of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. And by default due to connection to Dona Ana de Ortiz I am related to a very large chunk of the settlers (via Duran y Chavez and Baca). There is one lady in Colorado who have done considerable research and her work has more than 140,000 identified relatives and placed them in correct families. It is not known if she is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or not. W. David Samuelsen
